Default Fuel filter replacement.

Anyone had luck changing the fuel filter on their XK? 'Quick' disconnects at each end have a square button on each side.............not sure how to activate, press or remove!
Also anyone found a non OEM fuel filter that fits XK's. The OEM's come with a bracket and retail at $58..........
Found a Ford truck one but a little too big a dia(3.5") and inlet outlet tubes(5/16) much too long.
OEM is about 2.1" dia and 3.5 long plus 1.5" long inlet and out tubes (total length about 6.5").

No major brand listing for Xk's, only S Types which are the bigger dia of 3.5
and over 7 " long.

Happy new year everybody, Adrian

If you live in a country where fuel is reasonably clean, you shouldn't have to replace your fuel filter for 70/80k miles. How many miles do you have on your car?

I don't know why folks make the simplest things so complicated. Buy a Fram # G8018 filter from most local auto parts stores and be done with it.

I had my local tire store replace the filter as getting to it without a lift was too difficult. They charged me 10 bucks. Job done!

That's the Ford filter that I found myself except the body dia. is 1.25" bigger (3,5") and inlet and outlet pipes much longer that OEM. I was not sure it would fit OK; apparently not a concern..........$9 at WalMart!!
Have you looked underneath at the installation? did they still use the retaining bracket and the OEM retaining clips?

Thanks for helping; still like to know how to remove fuel line clips; I have pretty good access using my ramps..............but as you suggested think I just go to Firestone Store.
Bigger is better................

Cheers, Adrian

Yep. Stock retainer bracket and clips used. Did not get close enough to see exactly how they disconnected the old filter. Something about my lit cigar and insurance regs put them off.

Discovered that a WIX 33595 has a better dia. (2.3) than Fram 8018.
I think you just press the Blue button to remove lines; but no inputs from Forum!
Don't we have any mechanics...?

Cheers, Adrian

While your waiting for a mechanic...............I bought the fuel filter about 9mos ago with the intent of replacing it. Memory tells me that it takes a common FORD quick disconnect tool to remove/disconnect it and I did also buy a set of these from AutoZone to do the job........which I still have not done, but need to do 'cause it's now due.

I must have read about the tool on this forum or done a Google on the Jaguar part number. Like I say, til a mechanic comes along to help you.

Hailers,
Yes I've got a set of removers and just bought another single 5/16 one($4).
But all too long to fit between filter body and hose connector, however, this why I think we have just a single release button (blue) which we press. I hope I'm right and it's that simple! And you are going to find out for us!!
Note: Did see a utube presentation on different types of fuel line removal and one type shown was a single button to press and just pull it off.
Can't be too difficult as a tire shop did it for $10...........but that's Florida!
Can't believe no one has done this before...........including UK Forum!

Please keep me posted, Adrian

Richzak,
Thanks for input, I was able to get that filter for $20!
Much appreciated; but still waiting for conformation on how to disconnect the lines.
I think it is the single button type where you just press it and pull.
If you want to be cheap ($15) a WIX 33595 is the right diameter but a inch or so longer; should fit though............

Cheers, Adrian

It doesn't look hard.

I snipped off the first few steps, which are basically disconnect the battery and don't smoke or wear static-ky sweaters when doing this.

It would appear so. But wear eye protection!

From the looks of it, you'd want something the same dimensions as OEM since you are reusing the bracket.

It's done! just press the single blue button and pull; do the bottom first, then remove bracket and filter, this allows access the upper connector and press button and pull. Just reverse the order for the new one. I did use the OEM from EBay with bracket.....
A cheaper solution is a NAPA FIL 3595 (a WIX); total length only 1/2 " longer.........
you should be able to use old bracket OK.

QED (Quite Easily Done!)

Did you do this from under the car, or on a lift?

How long did it take?

Thanks for posting this info....

Richzak,
Did it the hard way; ramps under rear wheels, a lift would be much better.
Had a little trouble with pushing the blue button, my 79 yr old hands don't have enough strength! So I used water hose pliers, a button on one jaw would have helped immensely!
It took about 30 mins; should be much, much, quicker with a hoist, 5-10 mins; there are guide arrows under the body sill for the hoist pads. Be careful it's all Al. !

You have a few years on me, but I am not far behind. I applaud you for getting this done and crawling under the car. I admire your work. Hopefully when I get to that age, I can still walk out the door to get to the car.

Good job, and thanks again for the info. I assume the fuel filter I suggested on eBay worked out well. I will have to order one. I only have 14800 miles on the car, but it is approaching 5 years old, so I will consider the change now.
