Default Gas is taking a dive

I just stopped by one of my local gas stations and the price of 93 octane is at $2.99 a gal. I had to take a retake so I guess tomorrow I'll have to fill up on my way to golf. My fuel oil guy told me the other day to wait for another 3-6 weeks as fuel oil is dropping. Looks like with the weather turning to early fall and the day temps are great for top down driving we'll be taking a lot of road trips during the week. Enjoy the ride

Seeing how the price of oil went from over $100/barrel a year ago to under $45 now makes sense but of course it is nowhere near 60% less as it should be. Just wait until we lift the embargo on Iran's oil see what the prices do then, they'll flood the market driving prices down even further for a time

We'll see where it bottoms out but in the mean time just fill it up and go. I laughed as I think back when I would fill up my old Triumph TR3A for $3 . This was back in 1962 when gas was .25-.30 cents a gallon. OK 10:30 tee time so I'm on my way to the course. Have a great day

I don't know that OPEC can sustain low prices for an extended period of time. Saudi Arabia is sitting on a lot of reserve cash but that won't last as they try to undersell shale oil from places like North Dakota, which is already feeling a downturn due to high production costs and low pump prices. Iranian oil on the market will surely impact prices so we'll see. But I'm not smart enough to play oil market futures so I'll just enjoy the drive!

Jagtoes, I too remember 25¢ a gallon gas, a few buck's worth would suffice for cruising the main drag on a Friday night...

The cost of oil has decreased dramatically, but the cost of refining it into gasoline hasn't nor have the multiple levels of taxes decreased one penny.

Even if the price of oil went to zero, gas would still cost around $2 a gallon.

Regular gasoline here in New Mexico is $1.989 per gallon, premium unleaded at $2.469 rated at 91 Octane. We do not have 93 Octane. It is very rare to find any Octane unleaded gas higher than 91.

We have 92 octane everywhere here in Washington state. It costs about $2.89 in most places (north of Seattle) with some stations as high as $3.49

Here in our little town of Denver, NC (20 miles north of Charlotte). 93 Octane gas at the Wilco station is $2.64 per gallon. There is a gas station on town with 102 octane racing fuel. It has been at $6.99 per gallon for as long as I can remember.

I just filled up with 92 octane in Everett on 10/12 (the day of your post) at $2.32.9. Several other local stations were under $2.40.
