Yes some of the Texas roadways I drive on are not the best but…

I ran over a small sharp drop off pot hole (3” deep—I went back and measured)

and immediately noticed a slight vibration.

Both the front and rear wheels had a very slight flat spot when inspected.

Off to Alloy Wheel Repair again! They did a great job, straighten, powder coated, quick turn around, $200 @. They remove the fake fasteners prior to stripping and refinishing.

I love the looks of the 20” Selana’s but the softer than putty metal is really starting wear me down.

For several years I had an XJR as my daily driver. It had 40-series tires. Or maybe 45-series?

Anyhow, over the course of the years I had to have several tires replaced, and wheels repaired three or four times, due to road damage. This is something I had never experienced with taller profile tires.

As with many things the real-world disadvantages can sometimes outweigh the real-world benefits.

I ended up switching to smaller diameter wheels and taller profile tires for the last few years I owned the car. I reinstalled the originals when I sold it.

Cheers
DD

Pretty wheels and nice repair too!

What I have found after many long years and many wheel repairs and replacements is that unless I am running forged rims all these problems will continue.
My 2014 XJR is one of the very few Jaguars that came with factory forged rims. 40K+ miles and several large pot hole impacts and still no damage. I am very surprised and have the tires/rims Road Force balanced so any small change or bend will show up immediately.

My 2005 S-Type R came with 18" rims but not forged. I bent 3 out of the 4 factory rims.

What am I not understanding... at speed, you hit a 3" obstruction with your low profile tires... that have a sidewall of less than 3"/
I would expect a blistered tire and a bent rim.

I hate to shatter your expectation, The tire blew out and a bent rim!
still, in our area because of the road material used if there is a small pot hole started today, several days later it has expanded quite a bit. My wheel 'fell' into the pothole, never the less it is what it is.
