Default Hardwire dashcam

Hi

XKR 4.2 2007

does anybody happen to know which fuse I can piggy back for a hard wired dash cam?

I have read the fuse charts but I cannot find one which is in use only when car is started, most of them seem to be either ones I think are scary to unplug or are always powered on even when ignition is off (could lead to drained battery?) Ideally I’m looking for one in the passenger seats area due to easy earth location. I know the cigar lighter is usually first port of call but I understand this to be in the engine bay.

any pointers greatly appreciated

Thanks

I can offer a completely different approach if you like, we have been converting Android phones for commercial use for years into dash cameras so if you are on Android give it a try and it will keep you from using your phone improperly while driving as well. Let me know if you want it and i will have my team set you up for free. https://www.portnexus.com/home/pledge/ - this is not a come on to a sale, if you want it you can have it free. By doing this no hard wire, extra equipment in that beautiful machine - mines a 007 XKR all you need is a simple mount that hangs from the mirror and your phone. Sorry if you have an Apple, they don't allow use of the camera the same way so we don't support it.

Fwiw, many piggy back off a fuse. But this is not the electrically safest thing to do.
Right from on of the junction boxes I have attached leads, with an in line fuse to a relay and device. (We don’t need to discuss which device it is)
This approach is safest and most secure. If you’re not experienced in this, any auto stereo shop or speed shop can get it done for you in less than an hour.

Does "... you can have it free" mean no monthly or annual service charges? What are the other costs?

Default I chose a mirror cam

I bought and installed a mirror cam in my 11 XK HT. I made a mistake and put too dark of a tint on the rear window and could not see out at all because of the glass slope. I wired it to the cig lighter but I didn't hardwire. It is hardly noticeable though. It could easily be tapped in behind the cig lighter if I removed the panel. I am happy with it because I get excellent wide rear view coverage for normal driving and have the front/rear coverage security from dashcam but I don't have anything additional blocking my glass.
