Default HEADLIGHTS on RHD cars

Hi all, I may need to replace the left headlight on my 2008 XKR coupe (AFS warning light, left headlamp 'parked' low).

Mine is a UK car (RHD), I wonder if a headlight from a LHD car would fit?

The headlight assembly should fit but the reflectors and beam pattern will be different.

+1 on reflectors and beam pattern.

Did you change the lamp beam cutoff from the left to the right?

Jagtoes, you mean the light direction/orientation?

If your car is a UK version, the headlamps have a cutoff on the left side so as to not produce glare for oncoming vehicles passing you on your right. RHD vehicles have the beam cutoff on the left so the near side of the road is illuminated.

Therefore, the reverse is true in a place that has a 'stay right' rule.

Thank you v.much NBCat. Before I go and purchase a new headlight, is there anything I should check, like a fuse, control unit etc?

Have a read of the postings on this thread concerning the headlamp warning indicator prior to spending money on a new headlamp assembly:

Considering the cost I'd talk to someone or just do it your self and take the lens off. it's glooped on with gummy rubber that will loosen with heat. I pulled one of mine off and found a broken wire. Took the better part of a day to pry it apart and fix. Pics of the guts are in my build thread.

Also, swap the lamps side to side as well as swap the control modules (on the back of the lamp housing) to ensure it's internal to the lamp vs. a chassis or module problem. again, check my build thread.

Without my checking the webz, I seem to remember that there is an adjustment on the headlight assemblies to change them from LHD to RHD....... or am I thinking of a different vehicle?

There is on the RHD cars - it's a lever on the back of the headlamp unit. Downside is the unit has to be removed from the car to make the adjustment.

Hi all,

Because I am intermittently also getting the AFS warning light with the left headlight parked down, I recently had that headlight out for inspection.

In particular I wanted to check that this lever to change from LHD/RHD is in the correct position and not loose. However I could not locate this lever at all in my Swiss 2011 car’s left headlight. Any clue?

It is not on mine either Ter, I'm guessing that it may only exist on the UK cars.
