Default Help! Convertible top won’t close - Stuck like Chuck!

Friends,

Dead battery, top not working, try manual reset from memory, not working - - check the forums and try the manual reset according to the list and everything works until the last 3 inches and it just won’t budge - you can hear motor-pump trying but nothing.

Any thoughts? Weather clear tomorrow in NC but rain and 5 hour trip to DC on Sunday.

Any help is most appreciated!

Pics attached.

Thanks,

The top hinge area above the PAX door appears to be out of alignment, compare the orange lines I inserted. The hinge where the red arrow points sometimes gets wonky, but there are adjustments for this that are fairly easy to do. I just can't remember how right now. There IS a thread in here somewhere that addresses this problem.

There is no Graham to do so though. Not many Admins come through here anymore.

Default Thanks so much!

Cee Jay,

Thank you so very much!

Understanding the problem helped me so much.

It was exactly as your pictures described but I believe my issue was self inflicted.

As I tryed to pry the “upside U” into the “small rod” I could get one but not the other and it was just far harder than it needed to be, so I decided to take off the “hood mechanism pretty cover” so I could see the “guts” moving and then it was very easy.

In my botched manual reset attempt from memory I had turned to hood motor manually with Allen key way too far and it was out of alignment and it would have never synced up.

I watched it go up and down a few times, adjusted

with the Allen key and then it worked liked a charm.

For me, I had to see the problem first, which your help was invaluable, and then see the moving parts to understand.

My advice to knuckleheads like me is that there is a lot of voodoo under the hood mechanism pretty cover but don’t be too scared if your top won’t close after a manual reset - seeing the adjustments the Allen key makes may be exactly what you need to know to fix it.

A thousand thanks to the forum!

Best,

Ash Worboys
