I replaces the old license plate lights with new LED License plate lights on my uncles 2009 XKR Convertible Profilo and when I turn the car off the LEDs stay on but very very Dim, any reason why? On my other car's they turn off when I turn off the car, but on his Jag they stay on very dim even when the car is off??
I also replaced the Stock Footwell lights and The door Lights(They shoot light on the floor when you open the door, not sure what they are called) and they look Beautiful and they do not stay on dim at all, but the License plate lights do when I Put the LEDs in them, why does it do that? I would love to Put back the LED license plate lights back in because they look so nice compared to the Stock yellow license plate lights but the LEDs won't turn off fully for the license plate, any one have this same problem or know how to fix it?

I changed to license plate LEDs six months ago on my 1998 XK and do not have the same problem. When the lights are turned off they go out - no glow.

Did you check the connector with a meter to see if you have current without the car being on? Check that without any bulbs in place and go from there.

I will check on that later and get back to you, if there is a current with the car off what should I do?

It's weird because the stock lights stay off completely but the LEDs stay on very dim when the car is Off.

Start with volt meter and report back. Could be regular lights did not have enough juice to come on even through there was a drain.

LED Issue
Hi...not to worry. This is because Jaguar (and many others) have converted from normal electromechanical relays to solid state relays. Solid state relays don't completely cut off current flow. when you install LED's, there is a diode effect that causes a very small amount of current to flow. I converted my 2009 to 2011/12 style taillights and all LEDs for exterior lights, and see this effect. As soon as the (10 minute?) period where all electrical flow is cut off, they'll do that. After 10 minutes will quit. No harm to battery or circuit (I replaced AGM battery about two years ago, still going strong). Regards...ct

Thank you very much for that information!! I will reinstall the LEDs and when I turn off the car and lock it I will just wait and see how long it takes them to fully turn off.

Also how did you convert your taillights to the 2011/2012 style?

Have your uncle see this thread for 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition owners.

We would love to have him join our list of 2009 XKR PE owners.

The LED lights I put in the licence plate holder on my late 07 XKR coupe also stay on dimly and they don't turn off - ever as far I can tell ! I will check for current drain also on my meter, but battery seems OK so far.
Is it straightforward to change to LEDs on the interior lights in the footwells and above the rear view mirror?

Footwells are the easiest, just stick your head near your gas pedals and its on top of the console when you look up, the light will be on when the door is open, but They will be HOT if you have the door open for 30sec or more so open the door then get down there right away!!
I just changed the lights on my uncles XFR For the FootWells and License plate lights, now I want to do the lights on the side mirrors that shoot on the floor.

BTW On the XFR the license plate lights stayed on very Dim like I said with the XKR but after turning the car off and locking it, and waiting about 10 minutes they turned off all the way!

Help
Would you happen to have any information that would be helpful to me in establishing the appropriate asking price for our XK8 convertible Neiman Marcus Limited Edition 1996 Christmas Catalog Gift Of The Year? I have the original window sticker, contract from West Palm Beach FL dealer dated January 2, 1997, etc. Odometer reads 17,972. Many thanks for your thoughts.

I believe you have posted in the wrong part of the forum. This section is for XKs and XKRs model years 2006-2015. You will get better responses in the XK8 and XKR8 section of the forum. Suggest you try there.

I just checked my LED plate lights tonight.... I get no glow after I power down the car. They turn off as any bulb would.
Just adding my info to the pot...

Thanks for the continued help. This thread got bumped up by a different question. But I was told why the LEDs do that (after glow effect) thanks for the continued help though!

Just changed my number plate lights to LEDs and I have noticed they are on all the time when the car is off and locked, very dim but still on. Has anyone had any issues with them always staying on or is they a way to get them to turn off? Thanks

There are various ways to change that behavior, none super quick or easy. The lights will eventually go out, does it bother you that much?
They will not be draining your battery in any significant way.

Yeah, there’s something funky about LED afterglow. Got an LED shop light, and it continues to glow after I turn it off. Google “led afterglow”.

Try to direct ground the negative side. That's worked for me in the past. Also, better quality LEDs may also work as they have better diodes and such. Course with all this Mux Bus stuff, who knows?
