Default Help - no jack - flat

All - I've owned my 2008 portfolio since new - never needed a jack or the inflator until today - No jack, flat won't inflate (sidewall). Is a jack kit available? Need to get tire/wheel off car and keep car up - suggestions on where to find? no dealer in Williamsburg area

Not sure what is exactly the issue but, jacks are available at any auto parts store. A scissor type jack works best if the deflated clearance to the ground is very small. If using a hydraulic lift and if the car is too low because of the flat to get the jack under it, first lift the opposite end where the tires is still inflated and stack some wood under the chassis to hold it while moving the jack under the damage tire end.

I am certain that you can order a factory jack online from one of the dealers. Just call around. There is a dealer that gives a discount for forum members, please look around for them. (Nielly?)

ronjfoy,

I see you're a newbie, so welcome to the forum. You'll find a wealth of information here.

Sorry to learn about your flat and being up the creek without a paddle, so to speak. I understand and used to have the same concern, since my 2009 Portfolio didn't come from the factory with a spare...until I found the solution.

First thing I did was get AAA so I would have road service in case I had a flat that couldn't be fixed with the inflator kit. Second thing was to source a spare tire and jack. See this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-brakes-67260/

Nalley Jaguar in NC is one of many vendors that offers a discount to forum members. For a list of parts and service sources, and links to their websites, see this thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...ervices-11249/

Hope this helps,

Stuart

I won't buy cars that come without a spare and a jack. Makes me REALLY unpopular at a lot of prestige dealerships, especially BMW. Pretty soon the only way to get a vehicle with a spare will be to drive an SUV all the time. Bag. That. Noise.

In that case, you will find your choices in the future to be limited, particularly if you're looking for a high performance vehicle. A compact spare weighs more than an inflator kit so manufacturers are eliminating those spares to achieve government mpg goals.

I just pay for a AAA membership so I don't have to worry about all this! If I get a flat and I don't have a spare, I can have them tow me 100 miles for free!

I just bought a new 2014 Porsche 981 and no spare tire, no jack, just inflator kit.

Buy a scissors jack to keep in the car.

Harbor Freight...just $18.99

Scissor Jack - 1-1/2 Ton

http://www.harborfreight.com/14-inch...nch-95932.html

This is all you need in addition to inflator kit.

For a second I thought you said 918! I would've been REALLY jealous! I'm still jealous, though!

Nalley Jaguar in Atlanta (Roswell) was closed and acquired by Hennessy Group and merged into their Alpharetta JLR store. Nalley still has a Jaguar store in NC (I believe).

That works IF you have cell coverage. That is not a given in the desert South West.

I've noticed, and it is not confined to performance cars anymore. I recently read that the Chevy Cruze diesel has no spare, probably because of packaging issues with the urea tank. Whatever, no spare just does not work for me in the environment out here. With the F-Type Jaguar will sell you a spare, but obviously begrudge the idea as it sits loose in the trunk (boot). At least there is a proper spot for the space saver in my XKR.

I promise I'm not being dense on purpose. I can't seem to find any Nalley Jaguar:

Atlanta VW, Bentley Infiniti, Lexus, Nissan, Toyota, Honda & Acura Dealerships | Nalley Automotive

I would've ordered my XKR's thermostat/housing in North Carolina instead of Gaudin Jaguar in Las Vegas (shipping cost + time is so long!).

That is a good point. You'd think that in 2013, cell coverage would be everywhere but it's not!

Sorry, I thought it was called Nalley Jaguar-Greenville but I was wrong. It is Jaguar of Greenville.

Nalley is part of the Asbury Automotive Group, the 5th largest auto retailer in the USA, with 2012 sales over $4 billion, 35 brands of American, European, and Asian vehicles, 80 stores in 10 states operating under various names, and almost 7,000 employees. Nalley Jaguar used to be a sponsor of this forum and I'm not sure if Jaguar of Greenville still offers a 15% discount on parts to forum members.

Here's the link to Asbury's website: Asbury Automotive Group
And the link to Jaguar of Greenville: Jaguar of Greenville - New & Used Jaguar Dealership Serving Greer, Spartanburg, Easley & Anderson SC
