Default Here's a fun one for you techs...

For fun, I ran a system check using my AutelAP200...an older model of code reader, but works fine. I ran a live engine test and focused in on the coolant temp readings. I don't have an overheating situation, I was more just curious.

There were two readings, one for Engine Coolant Temp and one for Engine Coolant Temp 2 - and with a warm engine, the numbers were 89 and 43 degrees celsius, respectively.

Now, being a guy that wonders about things and not leaving well-enough alone, I thought I would ask Autel where that second reading was coming from (their response was not useful.) I noodled on it and thought...hmm, that ought to be somewhere either on the other side of the system (down system like post radiator, hence the cooler temp) OR I have a misread.

I thought about going out there and doing some diagnostics, but then thought better of it and didn't want to fool with it. Now I am an obsessive type too so while I am not going to fool with it...I am going to think about it and at some point will have to break out the repair manual and see where I need to go and put my focus.

If you are still reading, here is the question...do those readings sound right to you?

5 litre, NA w/115K on the motor and a new cooling system EXCEPT the radiator.

The higher temp is the rear manifold sensor, the lower temp's the t-stat sensor.

EDIT: and yes the temps look correct. Prolonged idling will raise the t-stat temp closer to manifold temp otherwise it'll generally stay lower.

Thanks...do you happen to know if that is the normal operating range or reading?
