High Mileage but great deal. Yay? Nay?
My 2010 XKR has now passed 225,000 miles, still my daily driver after 11 years, and will most likely outlast my ability to drive. If the car in question has been maintained, really just had regular oil changes all the way through, I wouldn't be too worried. BUT, at 145,000 miles, if the shocks have never been replaced, they're already toast as well as other suspension components. The problem besides cost is availability of things like the electronic shocks, Mine were replaced last week after looking for them at various Jag dealerships for more than 3 months. Between front shocks (over $920 apiece), A-arms, sway bar links, bushings and labor, you're looking at a $6000,00 bill. At 145,000 miles, transmission fluid should have already been replaced twice and will take a $500 bill out of your pocket. But if it was $12K purchase and you put another $8K to bring it up to snuff, it would still be the best car you've ever owned.
and it's why I spent the time and money on mine last week, it's just too good to experiment with something else like the Mercedes. I would rather own a well-maintained high mileage car that's been driven than a garage queen that sits for long periods of time.

Some points to consider, with the X150 (or any low production, older car) is going to be a seller's market, especially for the best examples. The engine in the 2007-2009's completely different from the 2010+. The 4.2 is more reliable and lower maintenance than the 5.0 litre but fewer were made and the later only just recently ceased production so more sources for parts are available. Cats should not need replacing unless damaged or faulty; tensioners don't need replacing unless they're broken; suspension on all MYs wears out quickly; coolant circuit circuits on the new cars are part of routine maintenance as they are more complex, use a lot of plastic and run hotter than their predecessors; fluid replacement should follow the manufacturer's schedule; frequent routine oil changes for the 5.0 litre are critical for lengevity; convertible tops wear out and the rear glass falls out; try to find one garage kept as the interiors and exteriors are prone to environmentally induced failure; some timing chain tensioners from 2010-2013 had failures and were later revised though experience has suggested proper maintenance helps keep them from failing; put the car on a lift and inspect for rust and corrosion, I've seen some in rather poor condition from road salts. Consider cosmetic condition, experience has shown those in immaculate condition were likely well cared for. Don't let price rule your choice, a bargain, say $8K example may need $10K in service vs a $15K one only needing minor service. On a vehicle this old, high mileage doesn't mean anything and one with extremely low mileage may actually need more parts due to lack of use.
