Some of those scratch and dent repair guys are wizards and can repair such things quite efficiently and effectively without the need for painting the entire panel/component. You will need to provide the touchup paint, of course.
Another question for my soon to be deliverd 2012 XKR.
The front bumper has been drilled for a front plate, that is not needed here in Florida.
By chance, are there any pre-painted plugs available to fill the holes, or any other suggestions?
I don't particularly want to go the route of having the holes filled and paint the whole front!
Thanks.
Roger
When I bought mine 15 months ago, it had holes for a front plate, rather than risk paint matching issues, I bought a Jaguar plate on Ebay and mounted it where the front license plate was.
The thing I don't like about metal front license plates is that they are the perfect laser target. Not that that would ever be an issue for an XKR driver.....
You could be right @guy, but every article I've read on police Lidar has some form of this statement: "The most reflective parts of an automobile or motorcycle are its headlights and license plates." Although, with a beam width of 36" @ 1000 ft., you're probably right. Still, I'm not going to provide them with a shiny flat surface for reflection. If I run a front plate, it's plastic or vinyl of some sort. But, thanks for making me do a little more research. Just for curiosity's sake of course.
I understand that you mentioned not needing a front plate in FL, but I'm gonna throw out an idea to you anyway.
My XKR also came with holes that someone had drilled into the front bumper. I chose to go the route of covering them with a customized plate that I got from a vendor in the UK, and I'm super happy with it. All in (customized text, frame and shipping) it ended up being less than $25.
It has held up well over the three years that I've had it. It's been money well spent in my book. Front bumper with customized license plate
BTW, that's not a crack in the lower-right side but a reflection. The silver plastic border has minor chips which one would expect after 3 years of "energetic" driving, but no other issues.
I also get that many would opt for the "clean" look on the front bumper though. Good luck with whatever solution that you land on. Cheers.
