Default How come jag has our xkr so slow 4.9 0-60?

Ok I must make it clear i didn't buy the XKR for all out speed nor to drive like a 16year old but I have always had powerful cars and appreciate them very much. Why then does Jag have our cars at 4.9 0-60, the numbers just dont make sense to me. I have owned a 2004 M3 which is not faster yet is on paper . I have owned a 2006 M5 which was faster but it was a beast. The Jag has so much power early I just dont get how with the weight and power it isnt way quicker..... I know it only has 6 gears vs 7 of my M5 but the M3 only has 6. How can the jag be slower than a new M3 when they weigh the same roughly and the jag has 420 vs 414 and 411tq vs 289tq??? I know the dual clutch is insane fast but the stick shift is still faster.... I swear my Jag can beat a M3??

Jag shows 4.6 to 60 MPH - 4.7 to 100 Km per hour I belive. I have seen anywhere from 4.6 down to under 4 from independent tests in mag write ups.

Jaguar states that the 2012 XKR coupe and convertible will do 0-60 in 4.6. It is in their brochure. The reviews state that jag is being conservative with 4.6.

Chromey35 stated 420 hp which would be for the '07-09 4.2L XKR, not the current 510 hp. The M3's higher redline would make better use of its gears and easily make up the 7hp difference. More torque may "feel" quicker, but the combination of hp, redline and gearing wins races.

In acceleration power, torque and weight are important BUT, gear ratios are also vital. Just notice how much harder you accelerate in, say, third gear vs. fourth. So, a car that is equipped with closer gear ratios, meaning less RPM drop between shifts to keep it near maximum power, will always have an advantage.

The disadvantage of closer ratios is that the engine has to spin at higher RPMs at cruising speeds, causing more noise, consuming more fuel. The XK/XKR ratios were chosen for a GT car, not for an all out sports car. A future 8 speed gear box should solve the issue where the first six gear could be spaced very close for max acceleration, leaving the top two gears for relaxed cruising.

I wonder what the published 0-60 time is for a Lambo...and does that include the time it takes to wipe out?

Reminds me of the idiot that launched his Bugatti Veyron into a roadside lake outside of Houston last year and it was caught on some guy's cell phone and put on youtube. He said he got distracted by a seagull! Yeah, right.
