You serious? What kind of neighborhood are you living in?

being 25 and driving an XJ....i get a LOT of snarky comments....but considering ive driven a Jag since i was 18....i've gotten used to the comments....i just brush them off and turn them around in my favor

i always get those people that down play the car or look the other way. "oh its a Jag, it has a reputation for being an unreliable car"

and then i get those retards that are COMPLETELY ignorant to anything other than Mercedes or BMW....and only drive those because its the ultimate status symbol....and they tell me I shoulda gotten a Merc or BMW. Which i almost did do....i test drove a new S550 and absolutely hated it....and when i say this...i get a response that i dont know what im talking about.

but i would never, ever hide my car or hold myself back from enjoying it...regardless of who sees and what they say.

lol I love Jags and I've been judged for driving an XJ in the past, but I'm still going to judge you. How the heck can you drive a brand new XJ at 25?! Did you win the lottery!? Or are you eating bread and milk only?

I'm tempted to buy a used X351 myself after seeing it in action in the latest Bond flick Skyfall...

F- them. F- the haters and the jealous types.

Everyone is different and has different choices for what the earned $/euro/ yuan goes toward.

I have 3 very nice cars (xkr, 911, and an S4), a collection of high end watches, and a desire (being fulfilled) to travel.
I know what I choose to spend my money on is MY business, not theirs.

Learn to ignore it and move forward.

There will always be someone who has more, and always be someone who has less.

There will always be the jealous types who have chosen to spend their money on something you do not choose - they should not influence what you choose.

Now, all that said, if you are sacrificing your child's future, your spouse's happiness, your individual needs for basics, then you are choosing poorly and should be subject to criticism.

I am very undiplomatic.
Fortunately, I also keep to myself.
I don't tell anyone that I own a Jaguar, I let them find out on their own.
And if someone disses my car, my reply is "f@ck you".
No levity, no charm, no wit, no class.
I did not ask for their opinion or approval, if they don't like it, then they should be polite and keep their comments to themselves.
But if they feel it necessary to be heard, expect a far fouler response from me.

Say, perhaps some examples of snappy responses to inane questions are in order?

Them: Say, I see you have a Jaguar. How often do you have to take it into the shop?
Me: F@ck you.

Them: The economy is going down the tubes and you buy a luxury car? And a Jaguar at that?
Me: F@ck you.

Them: Maybe you could sell that Jag crap and get a real Ford.
Me: F@ck you.

She: Oooh, your Jaguar is so classy! Will you give me a ride? Please?
Me: F... - Right this way my dear lady. Allow me to get the door for you.

Default "Sorry my dear, can you get the tab, Ive left my wallet in the Jag"

Oh the green eyed monster that is jealousy!!
Enjoy your Jag, and your true friends will enjoy your choice. Mine do, and those who don't, wish they had one any way. Over here in UK, the XK enjoys the highest road tax, (it varies from £0 per annum, for an electric shopping trolley, to something like £460 p.a. the most gas guzzling). My insurance for my XK is in the highest bracket, and we all know how many miles per gallon we get, with fuel over here being approx £6.50 per gallon. Add to that I'm just a non-earning pensioner!! I Guess I don't have the co-worker problem any more. When people ask me why I drive it. The answer: "It's so beautiful, sexy, and sounds fabulous, it makes me feel young again, and hey you don't get pockets in a shroud!!"
So my young lucky friend,(I had to wait 'til I was 65 to own one), take no notice of so called friends and co-workers, who jibe you over your Jag. There are not many other cars that give you the looks, sounds, or heritage, all in one package, welcome to the chosen few, and also this great forum.

Default One Or The Other

If it's a tongue-in-cheek comment from a friend, I say, "We all have our crosses to bear!"

If it's NOT a tongue-in-cheek comment from a friend, I say, "GFY" (and I hope he's smart enough to know that I don't mean ... Good For You.

Snarky comments come from jealous people who don't have the raw materials (IQ, incentive, ability) necessary to achieve what you have earned. You should be proud of what you've earned because you put in the time, effort, and work ethic to achieve it.

The USA truly is the greatest country because there really is freedom and equal opportunity to improve one's standard of living. And that's why we have an immigration problem; our grass is greener than on the other side - all of them want to come here. Unless you're a Native American Indian, you or your ancestors did exactly that.

But be cautious around all of those jealous people, because they are the lazy "have-nots" who want their "fair share" handouts and whine about "income inequality", which is Politically Correct bullshit run amok, All of that is "code talk" for redistribution of wealth and is the path to Socialism, whose slogan is "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need". So, if anyone with a good job and savings is considered to be rich, ultimately everyone becomes poor. But that's fair, you say. All for one, and one for all and all that crap. Perhaps, but if you know your Bible, you will remember the story of robbing Peter to pay Paul, which is always fair to Paul... but ...

you wind up with a sore Peter!

And nobody wants that.

If you liked my rant, please press at the bottom right.

Stuart

I can't believe this thread has been here for 3+ years and this is the first time I've seen it. I thought I was the only one who got crap from jealous co-workers. The most common reaction I get (and it always makes me smile) is when they are drooling jealousy but refuse to acknowledge the car. When someone is stupid enough to ask me how I could afford it or mock me for spending so much for a car, I usually tell them..I didn't know what to do with my money, my house and yacht are paid off.

Most people salivate and tell me how gorgeous it is. If someone is rude enough to ask what it cost, I say with a straight face, "I literally stole it." If someone comments on how Jags are always in the shop I ask, "What decade are YOU living in?" One friend clearly didn't know whether to be jealous or happy for me, so I let him drive it while I shifted it through Sports and Dynamic modes. He's decided to be happy AND jealous. (Wouldn't normally let someone else drive it, but he needed a treat, and, man, did he get one.)

I have several vintage cars and a number of fast Alfas, the only comments I get about owning a 2009 XKR Convertible are " Can I have a ride" or "Seeing you are driving the Alfa can I come around and take the Jaaag?"

Every time I take it out it is drooled over and complimented, and the old guys in the Jag club always get a buzz when the sexy thirty something girls ask - " who owns this car it is gorgeous ?" They then give me heaps because I don't offer to take them ( the girls)for a ride !!

So in my view the positive feedback swamps any jealous negatives, and I have the pleasure of driving one of the worlds best GT Open Top tourers

Since I was in my mid 50s before I got my new Jag XK8 coupe, and 60s before I traded it for a new 2010 XK coupe, maybe that affected the comments from my friends because they knew how much I wanted those and how hard I had worked to be able to afford them. They were all supportive, and I never got any negative comments - only congratulations.

As for the general public, I've never gotten any "snarky"
comments; only ones about how beautiful the car is, and a few "is
it an Aston-Martin?"

Most people I work with are just in awe of it, never had anything rude to say. Except for one guy, who happened to be my Commanding Officer. He's a corvette guy, buys a new corvette every year or 2, and is used to having the nicest car in the parking lot. After about 6 months went by, as he was about to move to a different unit, he told me he really liked my car. This really meant a lot to me as he wasn't the type to hand out compliments, on anything.

We were sitting in a Staff meeting one day and were discussing the upcoming "Family Day" and the events that would be occurring, one of which was a car getting crushed by a tank. My first response was "Oooh, is it a corvette?" Almost everybody in the room chuckled, almost everybody.

The Marines who worked for me would talk, someone heard them wondering about whether or not I was selling drugs, lol, but I used it as a tool to show them what you can do with proper financial management. I tied it into classes we give as most 18-22 year old men have no idea how to handle money and plan for the future.

Like I said I've never had anyone just be straight out rude to me about it.
