Okay then..... if a sign next to the freeway reads "SPEED LIMIT 75", where does it specify if that's the MINIMUM or MAXIMUM?

Well, last summer all the planets aligned….. I found myself on the freeway basically alone. It was about 9:30 in the evening and the sun was just starting to go down. My mind said what the heck, lets see how she handles above 150KPH (93mph) which is usually my limit traffic permitting. I eased the car to 225KPH (139mph) and then decelerated as I quickly came upon traffic that I could not really see when I started to accelerate. No significant change to the feel of the steering and no shakes. Did it, but will prob not do it again. just thinking of the consequences should a tire 'blow'……

This is where the law will always get you. According to a judge I know it is the responsibility of the driver to know the motor vehicle laws of the state they live in . I couldn't stop laughing but he was serious. So in NY the minimum speed is 20 MPH below the posted speed. Also NY doesn't have a 75 mph limit but a 65 mph on our interstate roads. So 45 mph is the min. limit and anything below that you can get a ticket. I never heard of it happening and my BIL is a retired state trooper and he never gave one out.

Hit 150 once in my 04 XJR when I decided to chase a Ferrari F430 who had overtaken me on a secluded tollway. We had a couple of friendly pulls. Guess the old man driving the Ferrari was curious about my car.
That was a beautiful Saturday morning.
Been wanting an AVOS twin screw since, sadly I can't afford it at the moment.

There are times with the way people try to merge onto interstates that the right foot is the right option to get out of an otherwise compacting situation. Since these are tight spots, I really don't know what I've hit as looking would be dangerous.

Lately, I've discovered some back roads I can take for a more peaceful and lazy drive that by-passes a section of south Charlotte's I-485 where things go nuts. My MPG gauge over the last few several thousand miles is gradually going up since I made the change two weeks ago. I'm now at 25.1MPG and was at 24.6MPH when I made the change. I'm amazed that its rising that fast from a simple road choice change despite several thousand miles on the counter of the previous route.

Fastest I have been was my '86 944, I was cut off from following a drunk driver caused by a side ways sliding semi with 18 wheels of tire smoke across two lanes caused by the drunk driver. Drunk was going about 85MPH and needed 40 foot of lane width to keep from crashing(two and a half lanes + shoulder). I ended up behind some slower moving cars when I backed off for the semi, and had to catch back up. Hit 120MPH-ish. to get LOS again. Charlotte Police department just "made a note" out of my calls, NC state highway patrol did the same, Gastonia, the same(and they had a police car on the other side of the freakin' divided highway doing a speed trap, all he had to do was turn around.) Drunk hit small town city limits, I was getting ready to wreck him, called 911, got small town police, small town police responded and were on him in about a minute and a half. Drunk had to be helped by two officers to walk to the patrol car in hand cuffs, he was toast.

Fortunately, no situation like that has happened in my XK.

In the Big D we have the Tollway, the unwritten rule is if we pay to drive on it, then there is no speed limit. The new 635 Express lanes are great for this too. I think somewhere around 140 and that was noisy with the top down. The car felt much more at ease than I did at that speed.

Quickest I ever drove was in my s60R Volvo. Strangely enough, that car was just built for speed. AWD, huge brakes, 5 pot high pressure turbo with an ECU tweak - the faster you drove it the more planted it felt, so doing a speed I wouldnt dream of doing in any Jag I've driven it just felt like it was on rails, and braked hard perfectly as well.

Of course, that was the case on a big wide open road. It wasnt much chop around corners as it had a lot of weight over the front wheels together with a FWD bias, and the ride went from sloppy in "comfort" to overly firm in "sport", and then spine shattering in "advanced".

I've mellowed significantly since. People do such stupid things on the roads over here you have to drive at a speed that lets you get out of their way. Or maybe driving a Jag I've got nothin to prove...

Been there. But with my XJR! This invoked a lengthy conversation at the next service station... Interesting how under rated the 4.2 L AJ34 V8 supercharged is...

I never understood people who ask me " whats the fastest you have gone in the car?"
Going way past the speed limit on street or Hwy is like a death wish..
Its not about top speed anyways, its about 0-60 or 1/4mi times at the drag strip...
I bet i can take my Gf Mazda 3 up to 140mph and whats the point?

Really no point. Sort of like joining a forum voluntarily and complaining about someone's post. What's the point?

My favorite thing is hitting about 90mph on an entrance ramp when entering a highway that isn't crowded. Sadly the fastest for me was only just over 100 before having to back off due to approaching other cars. That has happened a few times. The roads would be more fun without the other drivers, lol

AllblueACR,
I see you haven't wasted any time exploring the parameters of your new XKRs.
Good for you!

Here in the USA, we are terrible drivers. Its not the same. We also didn't exterminate a lot of our wild animals either, which makes a significant safety distance at speed as well.

Check out a local indoor kart track in the USA and watch the carnage. Its horrendous - and these are the people on our roads here!
