Default How fast have you driven your XK150?

My neighbor is an older gentleman whose last his speed ride was when he was in his mid twenties on the autobahn. He said he was in a BMW and reached 150 mph.

He asked if we could go for a ride so this morning I took him.

He's in his early 70's now and I asked him how fast he wanted to go, though I let him know right off I wasn't going to attempt 150mph. He said "tear it up and go as fast as you can"

We reached 110 mph when he said that was "fast enough."

It was the first time I've driven above 90 mph. I was absolutely thrilled with how it performed. It just hugged the road.

He loves the car and misses his youth. He wants to go again soon. The look on his face was priceless. Like a kid on his first joy ride.

So ladies and gents, what's been your top end speed?

Just 115 so far, as I have not had time and place to do more since I brought her home.

Saw 120 in the Caddy the other day, but I guess that is a story for the Caddy Forum, if there is one. BTW, I'm 70 and just don't drive as fast as I use to.

I haven't been to a stretch of road clear enough to really tear 'er up, but I routinely bust 120 on freeway entrance ramps.

130mph vs mustang cobra on a rural open stretch of the interstate. I got scared first and let up, no regrets.

I had my old XK8 up to 143 and have had this XK over 135 several times. There's more car left after that speed. Mine seems to accelerate over 90 mph...which I love.

XKR 145 mph, XJ12 160 mph, both using speedometer only. Both incredibly and deceivingly smooth.

120 two years ago on a country road in eastern Arizona. Wasn't even aware of it until I happened to look at the speedo.

Somewhere between 135 and 140 on the back straightaway at Buttonwillow Raceway in Bakersfield the first time I took the XKR to the track last year. With a 300 degree V-shaped turn at the end of the straightaway, you're a little more preoccupied with your brakes rather than your top speed!

I would have to convert it.. but 250km/h closed, 220km/h open (155Mph / 136Mph) hitting the limiter both times

Also only seen 250 km/h (155 mph) on an Autobahn where it was allowed so not quite as stressful but had winter tyres on. Not had the chance to try it out on summer tyres yet. My XKR with the Speed Pack is supposed to be limited 280 km/h so would be nice to know if it really is!

135mph for me. I was trying to catch a Corvette on I485 in the Charlotte area. Early in the morning and there was virtually no other traffic on the road. He was steadily pulling away so I lost me nerve before I ran out of car or road.

Car still felt steady and secure. My stomach did not

120 mph is the fastest I've driven in any vehicle. I've done it with several cars. I felt the least discomfort in my 05 SV8 but, something in my brain pushes the panic button at that speed and I let off, every time.

I picked my car up in El Paso and drove it back to Houston. There is nothing but flat land between El Paso and San Antonio, I literally stopped for gas at all five fashions I saw on the 10 hour trek because I was afraid I might not see another.

During one especially straight deserted section I couldn't help but see what the car had.

At 135 I decided a night in jail wasn't worth finding where the limiter was.

Sure felt like 70 in a regular car though.

so for all the really fast-goers.. did you also feel the steering become numb, or at least lighter above 120/130?

Got it just shy of 90 mph one day and that was accidental (happened during a pass).

Typically 78 is about the fastest it goes. Not a speed junky.
