……Caviar is not purple. It is one of the variants of the earlier Jaguar colours Black Cherry, and Morocco Red, and it is absolutely beautiful. Yes, it does change with the light, just as many Jaguar formulations do - but is is not purple nor anything like purple.

My wife and I just ordered a Porsche Macan in Copper Ruby Metallic, that appears to be a similar color…

(This is a stock photo from Porsche, not our car.)

I would characterize the color as a burgandy/maroon rather than red. Think grape vs cherry.
Here is a custom black cherry finish

And here is the original Jaguar Black Cherry - all the photos are of the same car, a 1992 V12 Vanden Plas (this was a model made for Canada only. The Black Cherry was exclusive to the last model year of production for which only 100 of these cars were built). You can see how lighting affects the perception of this very rich colour:

Almost "aubergine" in direct sun:

And here it looks almost identical to Caviar:

Beautiful, whatever the perception. This particular car is now in a collection in Beijing.

One more entry in the Rare Color Sweepstakes:
Jaguar released the XF in a color called Rosello Red that I LOVE.
In fact, it was available, though extremely rare, on my beloved XF Sportbrake wagon (which has proven to be an absolute rockstar in snow and ice, BTW). Someone said only 6 Rosello Red sportbrakes were sold in the US. Don't know where they got that number from, however.
Here are a couple of shots:

That Sportbrake is beautiful. As they were not imported to Canada, I have seen only one on the road - and that was in Norway (Bergen).

The Jaguar Sportbrake is always beautiful. I naively thought it might coax other car makers to try the same design approach (essentially the gloriously modern version of a stationwagon from the 70s/80s), and that maybe could coax consumers away from the SUV kick.

But I still say this color looks best when the body is smaller and sportier.

Hahahahaha!
Hey, not everyone out there can afford high performance in the luxury range. I have always respected when a company can produce a "budget" class car that's sporty and trim and as serious as its money can reach.
The Miata is, in its own way, one of the last of the line of true road-conscious cars. Abarth Spyder, Miata, XKR, XE,... the list is shrinking every year.

I was sitting in traffic beside a purple XK convertible yesterday. The sun was shining bright, the car was spectacular! Just gorgeous. Now I want one. I'm guessing it's the Caviar color. The car looked new! The driver was a 70 ish looking female.

A Caviar Portfolio convertible was on my short list when I was buying my car. It looked great in the pictures and had ivory seats.
