I've seen some very talented artists paint all sorts of things on cars at car shows.
It's a matter of personal taste, I would say go for it, but perhaps first talk to people who have had their cars painted by the same artist. I would be concerned about surface preperation, as to how long the painting would last, if it is done outside or by apointmemt in the studio, that sort of thing.
Cost for a really good job would not be of concern to me, but a long lasting job would be.
