Angry Inspection bummer

Took the cat down to Bobby Rahal Jaguar for my yearly inspection, it drove great all the way. Shortly after the service manager drove it into the shop, he came back and asked if I noticed steering being stiff. I says no. During the inspection they dropped the body pan and informed me one of my power steering hoses had burst. Hose is $106 and another $850 to put it on. It passed inspection though! It is really hard to steer without the power.

Which Rahal dealer? We used the Wexford one for our Volvo, and every service required a return visit. Confidence low, I use the South Hills Rahal for the cat and am very pleased with the quality of their work. Plus it's an hour drive, so I make sure to schedule only on nice days.

Did you follow the trail of power steering fluid? There must have been some where you first parked it in the lot when you got there initially. If not, I guess they broke it. Maybe their ride was a bit more spirited than you normally drive???
Course them breaking it would be problematic as a fraud, seeing as how it's buried and all.

If you believe shenanigans are occurring, I’d just find another shop. It could be an honest coincidence, and if you inspect the used parts, maybe it is genuine.

You pay way too much at a dealer for car repairs to pay it AND feel like chicanery is afoot!

If that hose was burst when you drove in there was no way you wouldn't have noticed it so it must have burst on their test drive

I would think the power steering pump would be making noise if the fluid drained out, no?
