Power steering system seep question(s) '06XK8
Did a search and found nada.
So, wife's car went to dealer for 60K service and they "discovered" a steering system seep, and for a mere $645 would replace the power steering hose from pump to rack.
1. WTF is a "steering system seep? Small oozing leak?
2. Something I can do myself?
3. If not is $645 reasonable and can any mechanic do this if I can't?
2006 XK8 with 63K miles.
Thanks for any advice

(Thought I posted this but guess it didn't take)
Dealer says the power steering hose needs to replace as they found a "system seep" and want a mere $645 to replace it from pump to rack.
1. Is a seep a small leak?
2. Something I can do myself?. Not a real "mechanic"
3. Is $645 reasonable?
4. Can any car mechanic replace rather than dealer?
Thanks for any advice. (Car has 63K miles on it.)

With a little mechanical ability and hand tools the hose can be changed. You can do a search and get further details for the ends and outs of the hose change.
SNG Barratt on of the forum sponsors lists it for a little under $120.00 for the high pressure hose.

I agree with Vern.
Last one I did was my 86 XJ6. Now back then it was important to distinguish between high pressure and low pressure power steering hoses. Telling you this to aid in planning.
The hoses were not interchangeable. After 12 years I don't remember what else was important about the high pressure side.
I'll let others correct me if there's only 1 hose on x100s, or if they can think of anything else to help you out. It was one of the dirtiest jobs I've seen, but certainly not technically difficult at all.

Hi mbates50,
I have moved you post from the forum for the X308 to the forum for the X100, which may be the Jaguar factory project code for your 2006 XK8. I your car is actually an X150 please let me know and I will move it there.
Replacing the pump-to-rack hose is probably something you can do yourself if you have the appropriate metric wrenches and a means of raising and safely supporting the front end of your car. The hose attaches to the bottom of the pump, which is on the front left corner of the engine. The other end attaches to the steering rack near the steering column/pinion housing.
If your car is an X100, the pump-to-rack hose part number is C2N1068. Check our forum sponsors SNG Barratt, Coventry West and Jagbits for pricing. Some of them offer a discount to Jaguar Forums members so be sure to ask.
Cheers,
Don

There is also a low pressure hose. SNG Barratt has that one for around $46.00 or so. It would be best to first identify exactly where the leak is located. The pipe and hose system has a few joints that contain replaceable seals. It may not actually be a hose. Also if it is seeping at the joint it may just be loose. If it is seeping at the rubber to metal joint then it would need a hose.
Hi Don, you might want to combine this with the X100 post that he already has posted.
Thanks
