Default Installing Clear Reflectors on 2012 XKR

Purchased a set of XKR clear reflectors for my 2012 XKR. It was a reasonable price at about 40 a piece plus shipping. Discussed with Maxima who said his shop installed both of his in 15 minutes.

Now then....

Just got a call from my Dealership in Columbus, OH. They quote 2.5 hours of labor at over 300 total dollars to install the clear reflectors.....

WHAT!!?!?!

Does ANYONE have instructions on how this can be done otherwise?.... anyone? anyone?

We are talking the front orange reflectors being switched out for the clear ones. All Jaguar parts.

Thanks
Loth

This is a pretty easy job that I did myself last month-it took less than 30 min. First, you take a hair dryer to the orange reflector to soften/melt the glue that holds it in. Next, take a knife (i covered it with a paper towel to protect the paint) and pry off the reflector. Then, clean off the excess glue and apply the clear reflector (it comes with double sided tape). That's it.

Different procedure for the XKR... Not placed on by tape as in the RS... Screws are involved and taking wheelwell liner off.

I guess with this labor I should just either pay it or not....Maxima from down in Miami said it was done lickety split..Minutes not hours by those working on his car... I need to figure this out.

My dealer in Toronto installed mine for $90. Surprised they are trying to hose you THAT badly. Maybe try another dealer?

End result well worth it!

I did my reflectors in 10 minutes.

Ryan, you just explained above how to do it. Remove the bottom 3-4 liner screws. Turn wheel in. Pry liner away from fender. Use good light to see inside the fender. you could also remove the wheel to gain better access and view of the 2 compression nuts holding the reflectors on. Back off compression nuts. Remove old reflector. Insert new reflector and reinstall old compression nuts on new reflector. The rest is just as simple... Any garage or body shop should do it for 1/2 hour labour. Don't let your dealer gouge you. They will do it to you over and over if you let them get away with it. You do not need a Jaguar dealer to do this.

+1...Agree with the above.

Play poor to the dealer. I always tell my dealer I have no money and I will have to stand on a street corner selling more pencils to pay for their high priced services. Sometimes it helps, but other times, they just don't care. I tell them standing on a street corner selling pencils for $.25 is better than standing on a street corner looking for handouts to buy beer!

That is awesome. I am glad we have tools like these boards to prevent people from treating us like saps. Only reason I know what to do is Maxima saw it done on his car...he said 15 mintues as well! What tools did you use? What kind of screw drivers etc.?? Wish you had taken pictures . We should have a folder inside the XKR thread at the top for each upgrade you can do to your XKR with part numbers, tools, pictures . Would be an awesome addition to this board for the goofballs like me!

This is the exact process I witnessed. It was super easy I watched the one guy do it in under 30 minutes while I talked to the owner of the shop.

Ryan, I suggest you go to your local body shop and have them do it for 1/2 hour labour. I know you're you don't like to wrench so I think this will be the best solution for you. On a black car the clear markers look really sweet.

Excuse my ignorance....... Can you order the clear marker from the dealer? I was under the impression that in the U.S. you had to have yellow. Don't get me wrong the clear is where I want to go. Does anyone have a part number or where to order? Thanks.

go to the XKR-S thread...at the end Octurbo talks to a guy named George from Terry's Jaguar Parts... tell him a guy from Ohio named Ryan who has 2 Jags just ordered clear reflectors and u want the XKR ones... Should be that simple and in the mail. They are in Michigan!

Did they say to take off the back bumper too, headlights and remove the seats? No need to remove the bumper--that is absolutely ridiculous.
The area is completely exposed by backing off the lower screws of the liner. Go to a body shop, Ryan, and don't waste your money and time! The body shop will laugh at the dealer--just don't tell them before they give you their price.

Ryan, you need to go to a body shop to get this done. You don't wrench this will stress you out. I enjoy working on my cars and have completely rebuild a car including the engine when I was 16. Spend $60-$90 at the body shop and it is done.

If I remember the liner screws are torx heads. The compression nut holding the reflectors on is a hex nut and good lighting is required to see them--you may want to remove the wheel to gain good access. Again, much easier for you to go to a body shop.

Will take to a body shop once the car is back to being mechanically sounds... see what I got when I got the car back from the dealership... a reflector is the LEAST of my problems....
