Instrument cluster repair
I recently had my instrument cluster repaired. When I bought my car earlier this year I noticed that the central display was very dim, in fact unreadable in sunlight. It did fluctuate back to normal brightness randomly. I emailed a company called Autotronics who are based in Leicester. They very promptly emailed back and said they could repair the unit. Unfortunately when they got the unit I got a message saying the central screen is impossible to remove as it is glued. Therefore they could not repair it but recommended that I got a new cluster with the same serial number, and they would transfer the information from my damaged one to the new one. This would cost a further £160 on top of the £180 already estimated.
I thought this was wrong as a new unit would not work in my car. I asked for it to be sent back.
A further search found a company called Totaltronics based in Dorset. I rang them up and the chap insisted that it could be repaired and the screen was not glued in. When he got my cluster he sent me a video of him unpacking it and removing the central screen from the cluster. It arrived back fully repaired the next day. I can thoroughly recommend them.
To be fair to Autotronics they did give me a full refund but they have obviously not got the knowledge but all good in the end.
I hope this is helpful to someone.
