I have one in my stable, and quite like it, but lets not romanticize build quality of R107 - single row timing chain stretch, front subframe recall due to stress cracks, cam wear issues, impossibly difficult to maintain K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection in early years.

They are Very Cheap. Today you can pick best of the show examples for 15-20K. Runner for under 10K is the norm.

Makes my point when you think about it.

There were definitely better years and my experience is much more towards the end of the platform with the 560, and I really didn't like the two 380SLs I've driven; but haven't driven the 450 and older cars.

My problem is garage right now. I'm getting quotes and such for my planned expansion and hopefully next year can get more stuff; a W126 is something I overall miss; and I acknowledge there were faults there too.

I agree with your assessment, although I've never actually BOUGHT one of those. I did drive them for awhile (son's car A4 and a buddy's A8). Both were so bad they made me sad to be inside them.
