I decided to repost my thread from the X351 (XJ) Forum for the benefit of the 2013 - 2015 5.0L X150 owners who had or now have a check engine light and the following codes. If you paid to have it repaired, you may be able to get reimbursed.

Check Engine Light - OBDII Codes P0162 and P0061
2013 XJ 5.0LSC, 47K miles. My CEL came on last week after I filled up (premium, of course). This happened once before and it was caused by a bad gas cap. So, I assumed my gas cap was bad again, and cleared the P0162 and P0061 codes with my basic ELM327 reader and the free Torque app on my old Samsung Galaxy S8.

Well, that lasted a week and the CEL came on again today. Same codes but this time I believed them. It appears that my XJ has been running rich, as the inside of my exhaust tips are black with soot and my mpg has dropped. Other than that, it runs great.




I researched the Forums and found that Jaguar Land Rover North America has extended the O2 Sensor warranty. See this important thread from the F-type Forum for details.

I have an appointment with my Jaguar dealer after Christmas to address this CEL under the JLRNA extended warranty. I never received the above letter.

When I first read this, I wondered why the 2010-2012 models weren’t included. Then I saw that they would already be outside the warranty window. 2013 owners: You’re almost out of time!

 

Yeah, I paid like $1500 to replace that sensor this past summer on my 2011 XKR. By the time I left the dealership, the car racked up $4,500 worth of service. Coolant hoses, rear tires and this sensor. OUCH.

I was planning on replacing the top because of the bad job on the glue of the rear window but did it myself with Rhino Glue to hold off for another year. Quoted $2,500 from an independent installer because the top has to be replaced to fix the window.

I did get 100 points though at the Jaguar Concours the past October even with my bush fix.

 

Replaced the four O2 sensors on my '07 NA XK for $320. The OEM's are Denso's. About $80 each (average) and 1 hour relaxed work. Very easy to reach the cats, so a cat sensor wrench and a creeper to slide around on means its a very simple job while on jackstands.

 

Slight nomenclature error here though... the front sensor on each side is a Fuel/Air sensor, not oxygen.

 

Agreed --didn't think past the common slang of "replace the oxygen sensors" when the time comes to fit new ones at 100K miles or so. Thanks.
