Default Kids in backseat of XK Convertible

Just wanted to say, that if anyone is hedging on whether to get a XK Convertible because you have kids... Here is my thoughts.. By the time my 10 and 12 year old outgrow the back seat, they will be old enough to stay home by themselves. Let me repeat... They will be old enough to stay HOME by themselves.

If your 12 YO can fit in the back seat you've got some small genes running in the family. It would require both the front seat to get pushes well forward AND the rear occupant to sit with their back almost vertical... hardly comfortable even for short jaunts. Now if they've acted up and require to get picked up I definitely see this being a viable option!

One normal sized six year old can fit IF they sit sideways, feet up on the other side. Now, if you have TWO normal 6YO kids, one can sit in the passenger seat ALL the way forward with the seat back tilted forward and then the other BEHIND the passenger seat, knees jammed into the seat back, then it is possible.

Your're wrong Cee Jay.

12 year old is small but the size of his 11 year old friends and he sits behind my wife with her seat up a little. 10 year old sits behind me with my seat forward a bit... I say we have another 12 months of doing that before he gets too big then he will always be left at home. lol

As Leeper has stated, your entire family must be on the small side of "normal". Everyone in my family is 6 foot plus, and 5-8+ for females. My kids were evidently larger/taller than yours at six as yours at 12. Mine didn't fit. Not even close.

I also only have another year or two before I no longer have a kid small enough to willingly sit in the back, but that's still a year or two more than any of the other cars I was looking at. Except the Maserati GT - even CeeJay could probably fit in those rear seats.

Yep, a 6'6" the seat bottom is all the way back until it touches the back seat and the top is leaned back until just before it rubs on the B pillar. No midgets in this family.

When I drove I couldn't fit my fingers behind my seat let alone a human's legs, like Ranchero seat all the way back seat back reclined until 1/4" from pillar. When I was doing work on my car I tried to move the seats ALL the way forward so that either the seat was almost touching the steering wheel or the passenger seat all the way forward so that even a small person would be very uncomfortable I had to wedge myself into the back which was VERY cramped to say the least... no way I would drive for anything more than a mile or two

This isn't a GT, but I'm also not a fan of any Maserati, although at times they do look nice.

I saw one of those for sale up at Spring Carlisle, an '09 with 75k for $35k and it's interior was rough. Made my car look super nice. Not much room in the back for legs.

Definitely wasnt interested in the Ghibli, but the Gran Turismo was my first thought when I started considering a self-indulgent car I could rationalize as being able to haul kids if necessary. After some research, I ended up with my XKR, but you gotta admit, the GT is at least on the same level as the XK aesthetically and actually has useable rear seats. Funny thing is I had the Jag for over a week before my wife realized it wasnt the Maserati I'd had my eyes on before

The problem if you got the Maserati GT would not be like the problem of only having a year or so until your kids outgrew the back seat of the XK. It would be whether the Maserati would last for a year without breaking down so many times with so many trips to the dealer that you'd chuck it before you chucked your kids. Maserati=beautiful looks, beautiful sound, ugly repair record.

preach it Brother! Jag/Aston/Massy all look very similar but my God the repairs are very different in terms of frequency and costs... performance is almost identical. If it makes you feel good paying $200K versus $40K all the power to you for purchase then the repairs yeouch

All true. The problem is, the XK is no longer made. So what are we supposed to do going forward? Even a 2015 XK is as good as 3 years old now. If we want a new GT, the choices are very limited and expensive.

The answer my friend, is take good care of what you have. Or, go out and get a newer one with less mileage and still under warranty. The reason I have a 13XKR is I happened onto a new one last year and decided that if I could buy it right I would do so and extend my XKR usage by at least 4-5 years. And, to make a long story short, that is exactly what I did.

.CA and Ralph you're 100% right! Cars keep getting more and more homogenous, substituting cute technology at the expense of driver emotion/ feel. Even Ferrari has gone that route which isn't at all attractive to me. I don't care what they claim the hp is I care about how the driving experience is and nothing out there is remotely attractive except the XK - the F type doesn't come close

I know I have posted this before but as you can see, although headroom is limited you can fit full size humans in the back of the XK coupe.

I am around 5'10" and the other two boys are 5'10" and 5'11" and my daughter was probably around 5'8" when the photo was taken.

Everyone has to compromise on space a little and we certainly wouldn't travel long distances like that but I would have assumed that the convertible wouldn't have the headroom issue so would be more usable?

u102768, was this some sort of family punishment? Someone scratched the side of the Jag and no one will fess up so we'll all go for a long drive until the guilty party comes clean?

Nice looking family.
