I do have a well known Master Tech working on my car and supposedly he knows me over the years. I stop by the dealership regularly and chat with the techs and staff. . There's an Easy Care rep coming by tomorrow to give the green light. I was told they periodically come out to dealerships for sporadic checks. It's really a small job for them....I'll check in after completion.....Did you expect me to do anything different?? lol
Yep it's a small job. They'll say yes for sure. My warrantied repairs are guaranteed for life of the part (whatever that is) 2 yrs labor, fyi.

You really wont drive it now. Do you want to ruin your new water pump and be out of warranty.

Keep your old water pump in case you miss the old days.

Good One!!! Actually......I would have liked to see the condition of the old pump, but between the dealership and the warranty company that won't happen. I love the sarcasm on this forum.....It makes the interaction that much more fun! Keep it going!

And you thought you had a problem with your water pump? I get awakened from a deep sleep almost every night because of trouble with my water pump!

FINALLY! After years of attempting to get my original water pump replaced under factory warranty (4 attempts) as well as with my Easy Care extended warranty, it is finally done! My 2010 XK presently only has 11,500 miles on it. It had to get approved by the warranty company...They sent someone down to take pictures and approved it. I picked up the car on Saturday and have driven it constantly with one thing quite noticeably different.....NO COOLANT SMELL. I'm familiar with the master tech and he understands how particular I am. I told him I wanted it thoroughly hosed down to remove any coolant residue and that i expect every single clip, clamp, and miscellaneous piece replaced exactly as it should be. Well all checked out fine and I am finally a happy camper. Persistence pays off....sometimes.

Stuart.....You are so right! I was close to accepting I can't win and would be resigned to living with it. I did know with certainty that there was a leak, but not being a tech, i could not say with certainty it was the pump, especially with all the plastic.. All is well that ends well. Now I can finally enjoy my car.

Now just hope you didn't get a new 'bad' one.

Congratulations!

I wish I could get rid of the coolant smell on my '10 XKR. The water pump was changed soon after I got it and I have also had it pressure tested since but still have the smell.

I have warranty until November so must get it looked at again!

Mine was changed just over 2 years ago. Haven't lost any coolant yet but still have a slight smell once in a while when I pull into the garage. I assume it's just burnt left over coolant from the previous leak in the engine valley.

Well, why don't we help with this? :P

Did you hear suspicious tick-tick-tick at the startup? It could be early signs of timing chain tensioner on the way out.

(I am probably going to hell for this)

Are you certain you had the most updated water pump installed? The part number should be AJ818909. If the residue coolant is not thoroughly rinsed off, it can linger. How many miles on your car? When was the pump replaced? It's also always a possibility that the plastic parts can have small leaks. Are you losing coolant?

Question Water pump and gasket

Hello!

I don´t want to hijack this thread, and I haven´t had any issue with my 2007 XK 4.2 Convertible , but, from what I´ve heard, Jaguar water pumps are always suspect.

There are better pumps out there: WHICH ONES? PLEASE tell me your experiences!

I have one on order ( just for insurance ;-) ), that has an Aluminium impeller. Costs half of the original ( € 129, IIRC ) , and the seller ( reputable Jag parts dealer ) says, its very recommendable. I don´t care for cheap, I want simply the best.

Next problem: the original, good, reliable metal ( Aluminium ) gasket is out of production. Only single specimens left on the market. It was reportedly 4 mm thick, which seems excessive. 0,4 mm? 1,5 mm? I´ve heard both measurements. The new ones are cheap, thin, paper, and need additional caulk.

Please: what are your experiences, Gents?

TIA, Hermann

Only the 2010-2015 5.0 engines had water pump issues. The 4.2 engines were very reliable.

To be honest, I don't know. I use an independent and the invoice just says water pump. The pump was replaced about 26 months and 5,000 miles ago. The car has done around 26,000 miles now.

I don't check the level very often (once or twice a year) but I usually have to top up around a centimeter.

Not to highjack the thread but, wouldn't it be neat for a couple forum members who've never met to do so at some point on a cross county? With pics to show the rest of us for sure. You know....it's kind of a social thing. lol
