Default Locked out!!

My XK has locked automatically a few times recently.- twice with the key fob still inside. Luckily I have had the spare close by but worry that it will happen when I'm not so lucky.

It didn't used to do this so not sure why. I know the manual says not to leave the key in the car and I don't as a rule but surely it shouldn't lock?? Anyone have an idea why this is happening please

Welcome to the forum Junelle,

Although I never leave the remote in the vehicle, my 2007 XK Coupe twice locked itself with the engine running whilst I went back to close my gates. Remote wouldn't unlock it and I had to use the emergency key to open the passenger door. Worrying and I have no idea why it did this. Never had it happen with my 2014.

If the battery in the keyfob is weak it's possible to lock the car with a keyfob inside, or even both together if both have weak batteries.

As for why the car would lock itself on its own, I don't have an answer...

Mine did this in my garage. Locked with the keys on the seat. I don't have an emergency key

Get a wire coat hanger and a plastic pry tool.

You can pry the door glass (I did passenger side) out just enough to slide the hanger in between the door window and rear quarter glass. It will take some trial and bending but you can feed it forward and grab the door handle and pull it open.

I could probably do this in less than 3 min now

Thanks for the reply Graham, did you ask a mechanic about it?
I am going to speak to mine today to see if it can be remedied. I will post anything useful.

The fob is new so would assume a new battery as well. Thanks for the reply
