Hi towerman. Welcome to the forum. This is actually the section for the XK/XKR that was produced after 2006/7. You'll get more responses over in the XK8/XKR forum, which is under the "Modern" section, instead of the "Current."
Perhaps a moderator can move this thread?
To begin to answer your question, the 2003 car should have the 4.2L, whereas the the 2000 will have the 4.0L. Read up on the differences on these engines.
Also, if you haven't yet, look into the well-documented issue of secondary tensioner failure on the earlier cars.
