Looking to buy?
I am NEW to Jaguar's, I am selling my 2011 GT500 to move onto something more "classy". I am looking at numerous cars in the 07-10 year models.
I was wondering is there any year better than others?
Can you mod these cars?
I obviously can find a XK-R under $35, how much slower is the XK than the R?
Thanks Guys!

Is 35K your budget?
2010 is the first year of the 5.0L engine. The 5.0L XK is close in power to the 4.2 XKR. 2010+ has a lot of refinements. 2007+ XKR is plenty fast. XK is solid too, softer springs and less costly to own. Drive them all if you can. Great car no matter which one you pick.

It says that car is at Texas Auto Online in Webster.
Texas Direct Auto is off Hwy 59 by Sugarland.
Did you mean Texas Auto?

If you wish to mod your Jaguar you need to know that aftermarket parts are very scarce. There is really next to nothing available for the XK's normally aspirated engine. You can get a free flow exhaust that will give you top end power (nothing drastic) but, at the expense of low end torque and by introducing a 2000 RPM drone in some instances.
If you are really into modding cars, the '07-'09 4.2 L XK is not your car. A newer stock Mustang GT will smoke it in both acceleration and handling. The XK is a very refined GT car for "gentlemen drivers", not for people of raw speed and performance.

No, portfolio refers to some interior upgrades, better stereo, etc.
Not to be confused with the 2010+ models, where they dropped the "portfolio" and added the "touring" designation. What was a portfolio upgrade became the standard XK, what was the standard XK became the touring.
I think.

I swapped over from an 2007 Shelby GT500 (which I owned for 3 years) to a 2010 XK 5.0 NA and find it quick enough with 385 B.H.P especially in Sport mode. Compared to the Shelby, the handling of the XK more than makes up for the HP difference which you cannot use with the Shelby without spending big bucks.
Good luck

2007 Jaguar XKR - Road Test - Car Reviews - Car and Driver
2012 Ford Mustang GT Premium Road Test Specs
Having just come out of a 2012 Ford Mustang V6 (w/ performance package) myself, I'd have to say that while the handling is probably not as good on the XKR, it is much more fun to toss around than my Mustang V6 ever was. The chassis is more communicative and the steering is much more responsive.
However, this is faint praise, because the Mustang had the worst steering feedback of any car I've ever had, save for a 2011 Honda Insight that I leased for a few months.
Not to mention that car was just way too darn big, and you could never get the proper seating position because the steering wheel had no telescoping function.

According to these two (different) sources for the 2007 XKR (4.2L) and the 2012 5.0L Mustang GT, the acceleration through the quarter mile is nearly identical, in about 13.0 seconds and 109-110mph.

Also, when I had my very modded Mustang GT I also modified the power steering for much better road feel. The nice thing about the Mustang is that you can modify them in just about any way to fit your exact preferences as aftermarket parts are plentiful.

Here is a link to a Utube video of the 2010 XK coupe just like the one I bought new except for the interior - mine is charcoal with the cream contrasting stitching. This is the lunar gray exterior color. All 2010 XKs came with the portfolio package standard which included the leather stitched dash, contrasting stitching on the soft grain leather perforated seats that are heated and cooled along with the 525W Bowers & Wilkins sound system. The only option on mine was the 20" Kalimnos wheels.
I love the car and the 385HP NA 5.0L sounds pretty good as you can tell on this video. It has good power and is almost as quick as the 4.2L supercharged XKR. All of this may have been pointed out to you in previous posts, but I just ran across this video.

Reviewing UK brochures it seems they still had a base model XK, distinct from the portfolio-edition, up through at least 2012. The only US brochure I found on-line is for the 2011 model, and there was no "portfolio" package, only XK and XKR. So the regional differences seem to be to blame for some confusion here.
The only options available for the US 2011 XK were adaptive cruise, pivoting headlights, 20" wheels and HD Radio. Everything else was standard.
