Default Looking to get 07 Jaguar XKR

Hey guys,
I'm looking into possible purchasing 07 XKR with 54k. I searched for a few days now, looking for common problems and thing to look for and just have a few more questions.
Is there any common issues that I should look for at certain mileage? I owned few M3's, AMG's and Audi's S-line. For example, on my Audi S4, your chain guides might go out at 100k, which will result in 10k repair etc.
Anything I need to look out for with XKR?
Any problems with supercharger (for example earlier models E55 (04) had issues with superchargers).
I know AC is the main thing with this year of XKR, anything else I'm missing?
I only found a sticky for XK8, but seems like there is no sticky for common issues for XKR?
Thanks in advance.

The electrical system on these cars is finicky, acting up with any little voltage drop. LOTS of guys on this forum use a Battery Maintainer of some kind, most notably the CTEK. It keeps the battery full at all times when parked, especially for extended periods. I use one myself, and it cut the electrical gremlins from showing their mean little faces since. Also, an AGM battery is suggested. The 2007-2009 years aren't quite as susceptible to these gremlins as the 2010+, but still not bad.
Another thing is the Full-leather dash, if so equipped. In hot weather or direct sun for extended periods, it tends to get dry and shrink in the center and can look pretty bad. Good maintenance and a sun shield in the windscreen when parked in sun would help a lot for this.

You can't have mine. Best car I ever owned.
But with these thoroughbreds comes maintenance. And maintenance isn't for the cheap.
With 54K on the dial...
1. Brakes.
2. Tires
3. Bushings soon??
4. I'd be changing all the fluids.
5. battery

Although the ZF gearbox is "sealed for life", in reality it's worth considering a fluid & filter change at about 60k.

Hi, surfed over from the XF list and from the S-Type list (like to keep up with all my cousins, besides when my S-Type needs replace'n I'll be look'n at XFs and XKs, I particularly like the fact that you can still get a NA 5.0 in an XK when they are not available in the XFs, and the 4.2 in my S-Type is a totally excellent engine...)

Anyway, common issues with S-Types that are probably shared with XKs relate to electrical problems when the battery is weak. Lots of gremlins that seem to disappear when a new battery is fitted. I'd check the condition of the battery and if there are any doubts just go ahead and replace it.

The other common issue has to do with the coolant line that runs under the supercharger. They end of leaking and are costly to replace (have to remove the entire supercharger to reach it). There is no work-around and if it is original it will eventually need to be replaced. Just be prepared to budget for it.

S-Types also have problems with the DCCV (dual climate control valve) and it frequently needs replacement. That can cause problems because things are so tight around the front of the engine where it is located. The condition of all the plastic fittings and coolant tanks up there is also a common problem. Cars the age of the one you're considering are old enough that the plastic has often become very brittle. As I said this is a problem with fixing the DCCV since all those frail plastic things are in the way...

Hope this helps.

Have my 07 nearly a year now and love it, everything about it. I have a few electrical issues from time to time but these cars a **** to that. If you buy you'll not be disappointed, just keep it regularly serviced and you'll not go wrong.

In addition to the advice above, the thermostat housing should be replaced on the 4.2 litre engine when the vehicle reaches about 50 000 miles as the seal around the thermostat has a tendency to leak coolant resulting in the MIL coming on. Since the housing is made from plastic, it is best to replace the housing, which comes with a new thermostat and seal already installed.

AC drain leaking into the passenger wheel well is a reality and just under 1K to fix correct. The engines are solid; I think the best regular V8 made in Europe. Hard to beat in terms of reliability.

As mentioned before, you'll want to change the transmission pan/filter/pan; which comes as a kit.

Tires wear out quite fast and then there's just routine maintenance stuff... This is a great car that's hard to beat on the looks department. If you are to buy one, make sure it is fully loaded.

The housing does not require replacement on XKRs as it is made of aluminum.

Thank you for pointing the difference between the NA and SC engines. You are correct as the OP is looking for an XKR.

Just dropped my 07 XKR at an indie shop that is in a dirty industrial area. One random guy came up to me and was gushing over the car. So worth the expense!

I think this only applies to the xk, not the xkr is this correct, my xkr has 81,000 miles done and no issue yet.

My XKR did have the thermostat seal fail, though! Just not the coolant housing!

Can someone post a link to this kit? I'm going to need to do this, but don't know exactly what parts are needed.

ZF Parts Catalogue is here:

http://www.zf.com/media/media/docume...28_Catalog.pdf

I believe the filter part no. is 1068 298 033. However, you could call ZF on 1-800-451-2595 and get them to advise you.

So the filter is the pan? the bottom of the transmission is metal, so does this lay just against the inside of that? is the source of the leak somewhere in this part?

Does anyone have any proof of the ZF transmission having issues due to old fluid in the XK/XKR?? I'm not sure I've heard of one. I know that ZF recommends changing the fluid/filter, but I just haven't heard of any problems!
