Default Lugnuts on 2007 XK - need an anti-theft adapter?

Dear All,

Have a flat tire (luckily in my driveway) on my 2007 XK, used my impact wrench to spin off the lugnuts but then found one that would not cooperate, then looked at the manual to observe that one may require a special tool (of course should have looked at manual first - bit disappointed in myself as I write technical documents for a living...). Went to trunk and found very tidy unused spare tire and tool kit and an empty space for what looks like is supposed to hold an adapter to pull the last lugnut? The last lugnut just spins so I guess I need this adapter? Any ideas where I can obtain? hopefully I have not messed up the last lugnut. Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Best,
Reg

Sorry about your plight, but that OEM 2-piece lugnut was probably already buggered by someone else who also used an impact wrench and, most likely, a slightly oversize SAE socket instead of the proper metric size. The outer chrome shell now spins on the inner nut.

Search this Forum for what to do. There are lots of threads.

Yeah, you are sort of mildly screwed. You will need to get that buggered nut off, then get some Aftermarket nuts that are 783% better for very little $$$. There are links to buy them on the Lug Nut threads.

Have you checked the other wheels to see if they are the same? That should at least tell you if you are looking for a special removal tool or whether it is just the chrome shell spinning on the nut.

Probably a dumb question, but: have you checked the glovebox and the centre console? I keep my puzzlenut adapter in the glovebox.

And I keep mine, even more handily, in the driver's door pocket. And garages / tyre fitting shops still ask 'where is the locking wheel nut tool?'

- I suppose a pre-emptive question just in case I haven't got one or I've left it at home or it's in my jacket pocket or I keep it hidden somewhere weird! They've probably been caught out many time on previous occasions.

Get the Toyota lug nuts and correct wrench once you get your buggered ones off.
