Default May eat my words

I got an inspection scope for christmas so I could see a few areas in the home and cars. So with all of the discussions on the water pump I did a little fishing this morning. Although I haven't seen any tell tale signs of the water pump leaking (like low water in the tank) I had been concerned about all of the talk on this form. I am at 14,985 miles on my 2012 XKR. I snaked the scope down and this is a picture of the scope. I can not make out if this is antifreeze but it can't be anything else. It was a little cold to pull down the plastic skid plate so I'll have to do that later this week. If it is the problem I'll call the dealer next week and see what's covered. It will be interesting to see what the 4/50,00 and the CPO plan cover. The picture is a little blurry but you can get it.

The CPO should almost certainly cover a water pump since it is
and integral part of the powertrain.

Infrequent use is a problem for waterpump seals though.

I'll pull the plastic belly pan some time this week and take a closer look. Then wipe it down and take it for a few runs. I should be able to see where the fluid is coming from just looking up from the bottom. I've put on 8,000 miles since I bought it almost 2 years ago. I also want to find out when my Platinum Service runs out and pick up a 15,000 service. I'll just have to see what happens.

I looked at my CPO paperwork and it is not listed as a non-covered item so you should be good!

Why go to all that trouble? Just because you can do it yourself and enjoy working on your car doesn't mean that you should. Doing so might give your dealer a reason to deny warranty coverage (although I believe Federal law prohibits a dealer from so doing). I recommend that you take it in to your dealer ASAP and tell him that you smell antifreeze and show him the picture you just took with your new scope. I wouldn't wait because you just don't know when that water pump will fail. Don't risk catastrophic engine damage. You paid for that warranty so get your money's worth and use it.

Stuart I don't plan on doing this even though I could. I've decided to let this one be serviced by a dealer but I'm curious to see what the issue is. Pulling the plastic belly pans are not a big deal as I have a lift that I park/store the car on . Also it will give me an indication on how small/big the problem is. My dealer is 75 miles away so I'll most likely drive it there but only if they have a new pump in stock provided that is the problem. I can also get the 15K service done at the same time but I won't leave the car if they don't have the part and need to order it. We'll see as this isn't my 1st rodeo but my 45th year working on my cars. Only this time I don't need to go to work.

jagtoes,

I understand from where you are coming, as did all the easy work (oil changes, carb rebuild, water pumps, tune-ups, etc.) on my '60 Vette during the 42 years that I owned it. I did not, however, have the advantage of a lift and became intimately familiar with drive-on ramps and a creeper. I must admit that it was fun at the time, but with age comes wisdom and a desire for no more skinned knuckles.

When you speak with your dealer, be sure to get the part number for that pump. There have been at least 3 versions for the 5.0L engine, and I think the most current part number is C2Z31146. See this thread, and posts ##22 - 27: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-154578/page2/

Boy-Howdy. I'd still love to do all my tinkering, but I don't want to/can't get my body to cooperate very well in all the various positions and contortions necessary to facilitate the work. I hate birthdays...

I still tinker after all I have my wife's 89 Volvo with 355K on it and I still maintain it. In fact I'm about ready to pull the 2 piece drive shaft and replace the center bearing and the U-joints. I invested in a 4 post lift 16 years ago and it makes a lot of work easier.

I bought a two-poster about six years ago, THEN I found out it was SEVEN inches too tall for my garage. Cost me $250 to return the thing. Dangnabit.
