Maybe a stupid tailight question

Are the inner tailights , the ones on the hatch supposed to light up with the lights on ? 2011 XK . Only my outer ones on the body come on . Or are the just for the brake lights ?

Only the outer lights are supposed to stay on.

Thank you . that's what I thought . I keep looking around while driving for another XK but haven't seen one in months .

In 6 months, I've seen just one (an XKR 'vert) on the road. Also just one displayed at large annual regional British car show. Do see XK8's. Roughly a dozen locally

Inners are just backup and rear fog lights, no brake lights.
