Default Mesh grills for brake cooling

2012 car which has these in bright chrome.

Since I'm having the diffuser and mirrors (currently chromed) wrapped in a carbon finish and the two centre grills (currently chrome) changed to black Jag ones, I thought I'd check if Jaguar has any black side grills.

I've seen them in black on performance XK's but never on a N/A

Part no's from Jaguar are

Left C2P20279
Right C2P23435

Dealer couldn't tell me if they were a chromed finish or black...I suspect chromed and that the performance ones are merely sprayed or dipped?

Any help would be appreciated.

The mesh or the outer trim? On my NA, the mesh is black but the trim is chrome

Those grills are not for brake cooling but for the air induction system.

I wasn't aware that the standard N/A XK had two air filters...just shows my ignorance!

A picture paints a thousand...

So it's the outer ones level with the number plate

Yep the 2 lower outer crome trim grills are not for brake cooling. They contain the air input for the induction system. The XK is different from the XKR buy they both have 2 matched air filters located up behind the grills. You need to remove or pull back the inner fender liner to change the filters. As far as I know there is no ducting for brake cooling. Others can chime in here with more details.

My entire life I've always thought that the XKs had a single air inlet and XKRs had the two.... Is that year-dependent?

The 5.0L models have 2. The 4.2L have 1.

Damn. Good to know. If I were to move to a 5.0 XK, it would have ended up with one really clogged right-hand filter, as I would have only been changing the left one, just like my 4.2 XK.

Dipped, Plasti Dip them... I'd have them painted to match your car's color. You can probably buy touch up paint in a spray can using your color code (I know we can here in the states) and do them yourself, or take then to an auto body shop. Probably cost very little.

I’m going to use the Autoflex system this week. It’s a sprayable coating similar to plasti dip.. but very glossy and a little more durable. The application is a little more time consuming but it should mimic the black pack setup.

I’ll take pics when it’s done. Also doing the chrome around the windows too.

It's the glaring piece of chrome that I find doesn't go, am sure there's a part number as the 'black pack' had them as per this car for sale.

Perhaps though the one's on the Dynamic R are different?

Wait, the 5 litre XKR has the intakes that low? On the 4.2, the intakes are located in the upper front grille pointed at the bonnet.

The 5 litre cars are the same otherwise you would run the risk of sucking water in when driving through standing water.

Ok have checked this out with jaguar dealer

chrome ones £65.08 inc VAT for both sides
black ones £236.68 inc VAT for both sides

WTF!! From what I know of chroming plastic it's quite an intensive process. Doubtless if you were to scrape the chrome off it would probably be black or white underneath.

Black however will probably be black all the way through...so how can they justify over 3 times the price!

So will be buying a set of the chrome ones and spraying them up.

So next question is how easy are they to remove?

Like anything else the cost must be related to the rarity of these parts. I would assume that not to many were made and no more are being built. So you are looking at finding new old stock.
