I get them to order it. With a little persuasion.

I too run AS+...nothing but good things to say. i wish I had the problems others were describing, that would get me new tires every 12 months.

Yeah hitting standing water at 80mph will very quickly teach one what to look for in a tire.

Q&C I concur with you on all that you say, blind faith in tire shops is dangerous at best... also agree that Costco is exceptional in what they provide (just got back moments ago actually). With regard to them not having a certain size as mentioned, could they not order and quickly obtain most any size available? Usually as long as it's a mfg they carry they can get them in a day or so. They get trucks in daily. Always compare their prices to most anyone else who seems cheaper and they will most often wind up less for better service/product

I've actually had really good/fortunate luck using Discount tire but I've always gone in with my tire sizes/desired tires and got the prices before arriving so not to be sold other choices. They've gone above and beyond with me over the last couple years on both cars.

Also like the previous poster I got a chuckle out of your nitrogen mention... I've cut down my nitorgen to @78% I don't want to go below that

Ok, I was with you up until this point. What have 19's got to do with it? 18's, 19's, and 20's will all have roughly the same total tire diameter, and the same amount of tread showing from the rear, front, or sharp turned front wheel.
And what is a 'sedan thread pattern'? Do you mean a non-aggressive pattern?

No, you would never get something like general tire and thread that looks 'sedan' like. Which is not available on 285-20.

Yeah Costco will take back a ladder with 4 different coats of paint. That's What the bloke in queqe in front of me had. Lol.

Yeah they put laughing gas in the tires. Go figure.

I've NEVER heard of anyone putting nitrous oxide in tires. Never. I really don't see the point.
I've had nitrogen, but not N2O

Got one of them 35 miles south but I'm not a member so it wouldn't suit me. Then again with $7/hr part time workers the quality leaves a lot to be desired. When I need tires I'll stick with one of the local tire outlets.

Queen and Country,
I'm missing the logic behind "sedan thread pattern" on 19 vs 20? in wheels. Should I be insulted as I have the lowly 19in? When I bought the car I wanted the 19s to get potentially a little better ride with the bit more sidewall. Now as I look for new tires, I find that I'm at the limit if the width that I can cram on the 9.5in wide rear wheels.
Oh well.
and Nitrogen? Hey lets all start debating the merits of using that...

And Jagtoes, I get what you are saying. I read some of the "horror" stories about Continental, and it is pretty difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. The DW or DWS is still in the running for my next XKR tire, provided that the DWS on my Genesis don't blow up. They sure have done fine on several 1200 mi trips from NJ to FL running constantly at 80mph. Then again, I've missed most of the potholes that some of the horror stories described.

Most tires have 0 good ratings via that link, continental only had 86 complaints almost double the # of complaints for Good year or Michelin.

There are many ways to look at data.

When it comes to tires, unless you know a driver can tell they have a tire pressure problem, and they post vehicle year, make & model, wheel make and model, tire model and year, its very difficult to trust. You also have to trust they don't have a "stanced" alignment.

I wish I could compare the DW and DWS directly. What I really want is a summer tread design, with an all season compound. It gets below freezing, but rarely snows.

Discount tire, miss-lifted my car on first visit, second visit I put my car on jack stands, stuffed the wheels and tires in my Porsche, dropped them off, and picked them up with summer tires on the fronts, and all seasons on the rear!!!!!!!! @_@!!!!!! I know each location has its own manager and feel, and this is the world wide web, but I would not use S. Tryon street location. ^^

I guess we have pretty much worn out this topic. It fall under other discussions that fall into the never the right answer. Those are as follows:

Who has the best:
Oil
Oil filters
Antifreeze
condoms
tires
Gas
Etc.

I've had good luck with NTB. Their prices have beaten TireRack every time, and I call ahead to make sure their best tech is going to do the work.

I apologize unequivocally, for giving that impression.
I meant that there are a lot more choices in the 19 inch tire size. Including some that are not very becoming. Like the picture below. Which is from the Tire Rack suggestion for a Jaguar XKR!! (the only point about the 20" was that the same tire is not available in the 20inch wheel- i.e. those with 20 have other problems) I will further state for the record that 19" is proportionately better size.

I have no idea how we became such a wheel conscious society, they even rent them now in some towns!! its like wheels have become the new tuxedo. So I am not into the wheel thing, I have steel rims on the highest priced car. But I am into the tire thing, see how this tire looks skinnier than the wheel. Its like saying I dont give a F about my sports car.

I hope the Rimz lovers dont think I am taking the ****. I would love to have most of the aftermarket wheels I see. But I cant because of the ubiquity. Strangely, factory wheels are rarer, and stronger. All I am saying is that I cant get away with it in my whole understated prowler style.

I am not a fan of aftermarket wheels at all.

I value ride over sportscar feel. Considering most of the time my jag is on a freeway going 75mph I value ride... thinking DWS's might be the way to go for me? I also need something that handles well in rain and snow...

Yep, as long as you don't go over 3,000 miles and they fly apart.
How much do you think Michelin paid for that "Unbiased Review"???
