Have a beautiful 2011 XK Vert. Botanical Green, Green top Portfolio edition, 25K miles. Nothing wrong with vehicle. Thinking if I should trade for a 2015 which would be the last year of this model. The only reason I can think of is Jaguar doing away with this model so I think having the last year might be good. Any comments or suggestions will be helpful.:

My thoughts would be on what model and options you would get. If you get a Portfolio edition with as many options as possible then yes I would go for it. Then again I would consider the XKR and again with as many options as possible. The last would be if I could afford it I would get the XKR-S. So depending on your wallet I would go for it. Nothing like the 1st or the last in a model. My 2 cents

My guiding philosophy; never to purchase a vehicle for its expected future value. If you have a perfect 2011 I would stay with it, just as I am staying with my 2010 XKR. Not enough difference to warrant the extra expenses and a different car that may not be so perfect down the road. Now, if you were asking a question about trading up to an XKR, I had done that from my XK and would do it again in a heart beat. That is where the large improvements in power and handling comes in.

Only trade if the cards fall your way. I traded my 2011 XKR 175, my first Jaguar, last year on a 2013 XKR. I only traded because I bought the 2013 XKR with the options I wanted at a good price and got what I wanted for my 2011. As a buyer you are the deal maker. Always know you can walk away from a deal when it doesn't go your way--be strong. These cars are not going to appreciate in value, at least until another 10 years when the resale price bottoms, and should not be purchased as investments. Only the rare well kept survivors will be sought after in 10 years.

I agree with DGL. I'd have thought the used price would fall quicker, at least initially.

I'd trade out of mine into one with angel eyes (so the late 2011 build, MY12 I think) with black grille etc as long as I wasn't copping too much of a hit on the way through, but there is a real limit to what I would pay just to have a slightly different exterior, given that I am really happy with what I currently have.

Absolutely, the 2011 model is a great car! Now if you want to trade for the XKR or XKR-S or a more current model or because the newer model with cosmetic upgrades mean that much to you or you desire a different color etc. that would be easier to live with then the trade starts to make sense; but, at what price is it worth for you to trade. Also, remember, a good many of us are always looking for something we don't have. All of us have different means to acquire what we desire and alternative opportunity costs. In the end it is a decision that you will need to be happy with consisting the costs.

So many different ways to long at this. If you see yourself owning an XK model Jaguar for 10 years then trading for the model with the options you desire now makes sense because you will enjoy it over 10 years and the trade cost difference on a yearly basis will diminish every year. Good luck with your decision and remember you are driving a great car now.

Yeah, I suppose that I also have to bear in mind our prices are so much more than yours. My 2011 is probably worth $90K max as a trade. A 2012 would be $150K buying well. A 2012 RS would be around $190K. A new RS would be 280Kish. If it was only $20K to change over to a 2014 XKR, I'd be sold.

Agreed. If you can swing it, this is the one that will be the pinnacle of the XK generation. If not an XKRS, I would stick with what you have unless a different color or body style is what you want. The Portfolio package does not mean that much in the scheme of things looking back at the XK.

I didn't think they were doing any XKR-S's this year -- just XK/XKR.

The only thing the newest cars will offer over your 11 is the updated front headlights / front fascia / and possibly a rear view camera.

Personally I don't see you gaining much with the newest car. You will be experiencing massive depreciation for a car for all intensive purposes is identical to what you now have. The XKRS is not available so that is out of the equation.
