New F-Type Coupe

New F-Type Coupe
So what do you think of the new F-Type coupe? Ever since I saw the show car a while back in coupe form I have been looking forward to seeing the real version and I'm not disappointed. I think it looks way better than the convertible--the rear is more "finished" and with the hatchback has a considerable amount of trunk space. This will be on my short list of cars to replace my '13 XKR coupe next year, especially the R version with the 550 HP engine. That is going to be a rocket ship!

They don't make an R in the vert, only a V8 S that has 489 HP. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were coming out with the R in the coupe and went right to the 550 HP blown version of the 5.0 like the XKR-S and XJR. Maybe they didn't feel that the vert had the rigidity to handle the extra HP.

Might be fast, but potential American owners still have the USA speed limits to deal/contend with. IMO 550HP is not needed, unless one feels the impulse to track the car. All in all it is still a street car.

The F-Type V8 S, new F-type coupe "R" with 550 hp, XKR, and XKR-S with 550 hp all have exactly the sample engine. With options they can all have the same exhaust and suspension dynamics. With a reflash of the ECU engine management with select options they will all have the same 550hp engine performance and handling package. All Jaguar V8 5l SC engines can be tuned to about 610hp with a simple pulley change and ECU tune.
Coupes always look better than verts. If you have a V8 S vert you can get 610hp with an ECU tune and have more hp than the "R" coupe; then you can go to the moon in a vert.

My problem is that I'm always concerned about voiding my warranty with an aftermarket tune since I never keep cars more than 2 - 3 years, so I need to get my HP straight from the factory. I wish that Jaguar did what BMW does with Dinan and let their dealers install tunes that don't mess with the warranty.

Haha! The X150, F-Type, and Porsche Boxster are rare examples these days of cars that were designed as convertibles (as opposed to engineering a convertible from a coupe design) and I think they look best as convertibles--the coupe variants are still very beautiful but the designs aren't as expressive to me.
For the X150 and the F-Type, I think it's almost a draw as to which one looks better, but I still think for both of them the convertible squeaks out a victory (of course, you always have to judge convertibles with the top down--with the top up, the convertible always loses). For something like the Boxster, who here actually thinks the Cayman looks better?
Yukk!!
All I'm trying to say is it's possible for a convertible to be more beautiful than it's coupe counterpart. Coupe owners can be very dismissive about convertibles. Sometimes you guys make it sound like I'm driving a Chrysler Sebring!

The Ftype is definitely not the exception. The E type and even the old XK120-150 are exceptions, however.
I don't think I need to say where I stand on the XK/XKR.
