Check the date on the battery. Mine was 4 yrs old and died suddenly. For $150 or so, worth it to just change it if its over 3 yrs old IMO. You don't know how the PO used the car. And as said already, these cars need a nice clean healthy battery.

Then get a CTEK battery maintainer, put it on when the car sits for more than a day and you'll be fine for a long time. My wifes drives the XK daily about 9 miles 1 way so I only use my CTEK on the weekends, just to get a nice full charge. Search this forum for CTEK and you will find a world of great info.

That's an excellent color combo, but I'm biased too, with the same on my 2007 XK.

 

I have not had any more issues with the battery, so maybe it just got a little low. I am double locking it more frequently to shut down the systems quicker. I drive it every day, so hopefully that will keep the battery charged appropriately. I still think the battery is original, which means it is over 9 years old. That is a great battery life!

 

Beautiful car. Treat her well and she'll drive and look new for a long time to come. Mine's a 2007 daily driver with over 115,000 miles and she just won 2nd place in a Concurs d' elegance.

I have owned it a month and already put over 2000 miles on it. That is more than the former owner put on in a year.

 

So, I was driving on the interstate today, and there was a re-tread in my lane. I slowed down to try to avoid it or at least not hit it at speed. But the guy behind me didn't.





So I got to drive my perfect immaculate Jaguar for a total of 2 months. I'll get it fixed, but it will no longer be perfect or immaculate.

 

Oh No! Sucks!!!! One of my worst nightmares...

 

Man, I feel you. Many many years ago when smart phones were new and not common I had a texting 22 year old in his dads big size pick up truck not see that the traffic had stopped.

My first car was totaled. It bummed me out that I cannot say I own and drive the first car I ever bought. Do you know yet the situation on yours?

 

I'll need to take it to the appraiser.

 

Ouch! I'm sure it can be repaired to pre-accident appearance, but now it's got a wreck on the title.

Any experts out there know how to file a diminished value claim, or is such a thing even a thing?

 

Man do I feel for you! My 07 got rear ended (just a low speed tap) that cost $18K to fix! Was done correctly to Jag standards and looks like new, but still......

As long as there is no damage to sheet metal and structure other than the trunk it should be well below that number. I researched Jaguar certified and aluminum qualified body shops to make sure I got one who did it right. My baby was out of commision for 6 weeks because of the structual damage though.

BTW, don't let them tell you they can bend the metal back (especially the trunk)....aluminum has no metal memory and is very hard to work with because of possible stress fracturing.

That is probably more than you wanted to hear but looking at that pix just makes my tummy roll! Makes you feel violated doesn't it?

 

So, how do you find Jaguar certified shops?

 

Very sorry to see your Jag get hit. Bummer indeed. A good shop should be able to make it like new. The hardest part is usually getting OEM parts. Let us know how it goes. Take lot's of pics.

 

If you are running with full coverage insurance I'd start by talking to those folks. They'll either recommend you file a claim with them or not. I'm thinking they will and they will then go after the other guys insurance to foot their bill to fix your car.

Diminished value may or may not apply since it's almost ten years old. Again, your insurance folks will be able to help with that determination. Basically they'll pay you X amount for how much the accident depreciates the value of your car.

Hopefully the substructure is OK and the needed repairs are only cosmetic. Life happens so try not to get too down about this.

 

Both of us have USAA insurance. So there is no going after the other insurance company. They told me I was not at fault, so I probably won't have to pay the deductible. I called the place they told me to get an estimate, but they don't work on aluminum cars. I looked on-line and the nearest Jaguar certified shop is in Mississippi - 3 hours away. I called the local Jag dealer to see who they use and they gave me 2 names, so I'll call them today.

 

So how is it going?

 

Supposed to get the estimate done today or tomorrow. Then it is supposed to be 2 weeks or so to fix. I don't believe I am going to the Jag certified shop. The damage seems to be repairable by the local shop.
