Thanks to all who assisted me when I had a major problem the 2nd day I owned a ‘07 XK. Top down outside / no start. I’ve learned a lot about XK batteries over the past week. These cars are much more complicated than the MGs and Triumphs I’ve restored and driven over the past 50 years.
With the battery fully charged I went about resetting the car today. Top is up, windows and parking brake reset, and idle set. Everything seems normal EXCEPT the display displays only the Jaguar word and pic - no audio / nav / or climate.
Odd as before I started the car for the first time, I raised the top with the car ON but not running. Radio was working fine at the time. Started car - only Jag screen.
I do have the seat belts pulled fully out and clamped as I’m cleaning them and they are drying. Did not fasten belts while test driving. Safety feature? No seatbelt/ no radio?
My guess. Car does not know you have a full battery- yet.
When installed at the dealer there is a procedure to inform the car of the new battery and capacity.
It will get it sooner or later without you doing anything.
Can also just be a quirk that these cars suffer from.
You may find the next time you start it all is back to normal. Some have reported that the head unit freezes up more in the cold weather.
There are usually 3 things that cause this via group consensus. Faulty battery and my assumption is you have fully charged yours and it sits @ 12.6 volts resting. Second is cold weather and third is hot weather. As you just changed your battery, I suspect that's the cause. The most common solution I've read that works is:
Exit the car and shut it down by locking it. Locking the car resets the components. Then keep your keys away (3 feet or more) for about ten minutes. Give that a try and let us know.
I've had this problem a few times. Thought it would go away after I changed my battery. In my experience it usually happens when you do a lot of short drives and the battery does not fully charge.
But the last time it occurred was on a super cold day. How cold? Well, this cold...
