I used an inspection camera to take a look at the duckbill on my 2007 XK. I think I found where it is supposed to be, but there was not one there. Is that a problem?
Extremely minor problem, it possibly allows a VERY small intrusion of engine compartment air to enter the heater box, but so do duckbills that have been cut off. On the positive side, it will never clog because it isn't there!
There is no way to replace the duckbill unless you strip out the dashboard so I wouldn't worry about it unless you have the dashboard out for other reasons. Until then, no duckbill is definitely better than a duckbill.
If what I can see from other posts is correct, the duckbill attaches to the heater/ac box, not the firewall. That would suggest that there is a gap between the heater/ac box and the firewall where the water could run instead of going out the duckbill hole. Did Jaguar install a foam seal between the box and the firewall that could seal this joint?
I guess I'll have to wait until the weather warms up and I need the AC to see if there is a problem.
