The controversy of storing a vehicle with tires hanging is an old one. Everything I'vee read agrees with Ridicrick's claim that modern cars suffer no damage being stored for a few months over the Winter with wheels hanging.

I think the original concern of this practice related to whether the shock absorber piston seals might be damaged by being pulled too far up into the cylinders by the weight of the tires and hub carriers. Also many suspension components like control arm bushings are tightened down under load, e.i. the vehicle resting on the ground. The concern was that storing the vehicle with wheels hanging could run the risk of those components gradually twisting around to the 'hanging position'. If this occurred, I doubt there would be any permanent damage, and that one could simply loosen the joint, then re-tighten same with the weight of the car on the ground.

Good points. My wheels are off so luckily I wont have to worry about it. Although all suspension parts are actually being replaced anyways. Im sure my lowering springs took a good toll on my suspension already. My ball joints were completely shot, as bad as they can get.

Thank goodness they assaulted the pretty front bumper with no less than 3 big-*** bolts. Should be fun to make look semi-ok after removal.

Very nice. Welcome aboard!! That is a '10 or '11, correct? You will enjoy it. Suggest you add the model year and anything special about your XKR to your signature; it will help other members of the Forum to be responsive if and when you have any questions.

Interior appears to be in great shape
Original Dunlaps with beefy tread left. Will likely replace soon.

My 2010 with 28K miles after a bath. New tennis shoes (tires) tomorrow AM. All fluids next week and she's good to go.

I'm across the river from you but mine is in the garage up on it's lift waiting . It will melt fast with the weather changing. I've got about 7" over here so far. Oh don't worry your car won't melt. Spring will be here soon enough. I got 6 weeks before my golf league starts so enjoy.
