Default Oil Level Sensor Replacement?

For the life of me, I can't understand why the hell anyone would make an engine without a dipstick. The electronic oil level sensor seems like a good idea, but a dipstick, just to verify the electronic gizmo's reading, seems like a no-brainer.

Anyway... I tried to desludge my engine. I put in some additives and changed the oil THREE times in less than 500 miles in an attempt to get the oil level sensor working. It still reads normal, all of the time.

I know that's not right because TWO times now the oil level has gotten so low I can hear the valves rattling. The only way I can check the actual level is by pumping out the oil and measuring it. That's a pain in the ***.

So I guess I need to replace the oil level sensor. Has anyone done this? It looks pretty straightforward. It looks like I can just pump out the oil, drop the oil pan, and replace the sensor. Is it that simple?

Get yourself a copy of the AJ133 Technical Training pdf from my Dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8y4iax9hm2...%20V8.pdf?dl=0
Then go to pages 68 and 69 (Chapters 2-44 and 2-45).
The sensor is mounted on the underside of the sump on the outside of it, and is held on with three bolts.
It looks to me that it would be a fairly straightforward job to unbolt the old sensor and bolt a new one on.
Maybe add some sealant as well.
Edit - forgot to add - it looks like there is no need to remove the sump pan at all, just pump or drain the oil out and replace the sensor from the outside.

Good luck finding a new sensor at a reasonable price!

Edit - found a couple of listings on Fleabay real easy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Oil-...gAAOSwAGxdptqE
Fairly cheap as well.

Third edit - if the one linked above is no good you could try this one from AliExpress, looks to be the exact same item for half the price and free shipping!

Thanks OzXFR! That's a huge help. I thought the sensor had to be up inside the sump. I figured I would have to drop the oil pan to get to it. It actually looks like it would be pretty easy to remove.

Before buying one I think I'm just going to remove it and try to clean it, first. If that doesn't fix it I'll order a replacement.

Sam, you may have already looked at this angle too but, it might be a function of corrosion in the sensor's connector.
