One wonders
As I look at some of the pictures of the 2007-2009 Xk's I see the 4.2 numbers on the rear of the car. So I was wondering why they didn't put the 5.0 numbers on the 2010-2015 MY cars. Just curious.
I believe the reason for the engine size being on the boot lid is due to the fact that in some markets, Jaguar offered the X150 with either a 3.5 or 4.2 litre engine.
In the North American market, only the 4.2 litre was offered, so there was no need for that designation. The same holds true for the 5.0 litre.

I've only seen the "4.2" on the non-US X150 1st gen cars, and I think NBCat's explanation is on point. There were very few 3.5's made (c. 1,000 if memory serves correctly) with most reportedly shipped to northern Europe. I've seen a few in the US that have the 4.2 badge, but it was added on by customers, not from the factory.

That is the info I found when I looked it up.
There are 5.0 badges from the XF/XJ series if someone really wanted one.
I think it looked more balanced in pictures to have XK on one side, and 4.2 on the other side. I just removed the XK badge to gain balance.
I'd rather focus on the car, than the badge.

Owning an XK, and having driven a //R, that’s probably a close assessment.
