Default Painting Window Surrounds

Has anyone painted their window surrounds? Is it best to remove them for painting?

I went with vinyl wrap. I prefer vinyl wrap as I think it looks better than plasti-dip (after I plasti-dipped my rover wheels). Also, if you are going gloss black (ala the black pack or XKR75, XKRS versions), you will need to vinyl wrap as the closest you can get with plasti-dip would be satin black. I've had the vinyl wrap window trim on the XKR for almost 3 years now and no problems although the XKR has only seen sun and no rain or snow, stored in the winter and only driven 1,900 miles a year. So far plasti-dip has been pretty durable also. Gone through rain, a lot of salt, 4-5 inches of snow, below zero temps and so far plasti-dip has been holding up well for the last 2 months. I've had vinyl wrap on my rover for 2 winters and there was some peeling and bubbling but the shop easily fixed it under warranty and this winter so far no peeling.

Thanks, I had considered plasti-dip and vinyl wrap but was concerned about durability as I use the car wash and even though I garage the car it does spend time out in the scorching Florida sun. I was also thinking about getting new wheels in titanium and wanted to match the color.

I had mine removed from the car and painted before I picked up the car from the dealer.

One other thing to note is the trim on the door below the windows. A little rubbing goes on between the trim and that rubber piece that can cause the paint to flake. This happened to mine and a XKR-S that was painted flat black. Since it was corrected it has not reappeared but we will see what happens over the next few thousand miles. I'm not sure what they did differently to correct the issue but I will ask.
