My F150 is at an automotive electrical specialist shop because of parasitic drain. It's been there two days and no call back, and the guy said he'd start on it right away.
I don't feel too good about this...
I tried the millivolt check, but it was tedious and quite finicky. I didn't have a working amp clamp at the time so that was a no-go also. This shop has an amp meter with troubleshooting software, so it'll be (hopefully) easier to find something. Plus, it's still winter and I'm allergic to cold.
The original suffered from my bad soldering, so I couldn't trust it. Only $25, so tossed it.
Got a new one, plus a much more precise soldering kit for surface mounted devices.
Modified it as I should have done in the previous one, but stopped at upgrading it to 13.5V. Got the right cables, bolts and so forth. Done, works fine.
Now I can reprogram and re-option without voltage concerns.
(Oh, BTW, shutting off climate and double locking: no parasitic drain in 6 months.)
Had fun and learned a lot (which is what I bought the XK to do)
Finished, finally. 13.5 VDC
