Parking light grimlin
After shutting down car and leave parked . About 10 minutes later I notice parking lights have come on for no apparent reason. Well , of course, this quickly runs the battery down. Any ideas on what may be causing the lights to come on. Thanks

It's been noted elsewhere that a dying battery can bring on the sidelights, but I think those proposing this idea said the horn blew as well if I remember rightly. How old is the battery?
I've had my battery drain on me while detailing the car with the doors open (puddle lights on and not shutting off) - I never noticed sidelights coming on or the horn blowing so whether that theory of a dying battery could be myth.
YES! It IS the battery. A low battery makes the lights come on, it isn't the other way around.
Your battery is on the way out, if not already gone.
First step is to CHARGE it, with a charger. Not with a maintainer nor a trickle charger. An actual Battery Charger. If you don't have one, remove the battery and bring it to nearly any auto parts store. They will first charge it at least overnight and then test it for you.
I'll bet you a donut that you will need a new battery. If not right now, in less than six months.

This is NOT a myth: a dying battery in these cars very often sets the parking lights on and occasionally sounds the horn. I have witnessed this, and the cure: a new, FULLY CHARGED battery (new batteries are rarely, in fact, almost never fully charged - despite what the clerk tells you).
Yes, it seems counter-intuitive, but the fact is that low battery voltage in modern cars (not just Jaguars) results in random, seemingly unconnected issues. The first culprit is ALWAYS the battery.

Well, I just spent 20 minutes writing a detailed note to you about this issue, and then I lost my internet connection and what I wrote has gone somewhere in the ether….
Disregard the advice you have been given if you like. But the issue is a failing battery. The symptom you describe is just ONE of the possible scenarios, the last gasps of life, a cry for attention…and it is one (but only one of many) that I have personal knowledge of.

Duralast, Diehard, Napa, they're all about the same. Most if not all have max 3 year warranty. I use Duralast Gold from Autozone. Top Post. Group size 93. 800 CCA.
FYI my XE's workshop manual states the following:
Obviously my car is a younger and different model so this may not apply to you.. but I've found posts about this for cars as old as the late 1990s so it's probably worth researching before you go ahead. I'm yet to uncover exactly what the procedure is or even exactly what "an approved diagnostic system" is - I assume they mean SDD/Pathfinder but I haven't been able to find out for sure. Someone more familiar with your car will hopefully chime in with more specific details.
I asked a local dealer if I could buy a suitable battery and have them fit it and perform the procedure, the cost was very reasonable (about AU$100-150 from memory) for the peace of mind of knowing it's been done properly. Buying the battery itself from the dealer was at least double the price of just finding an equivalent replacement.
On in service vehicles fitted with a Battery Monitoring System (BMS), the BMS
control module must be reset following the installation of a new battery. The
BMS control module reset procedure must be performed using an approved
diagnostic system.
