Default Pentosin 4

Greetings to all.....

Just a heads up that Oreillys carries Pentosin 4 brake fluid ($11.50 litre). They may not have it on the shelf, but if not, they can order it. Be safe.

Thanks for posting the deal.

Does Pentosin 4 meets Jaguar's specs? Last week I got a the Jag brake fluid at the dealer for $19.99/litre to change my fluid and it was not enough. I need a second bottle but, hate to make the long drive to the dealer again.

Yes. Did mine and it only took about 1/2 litre. You should have suctioned out the master cylinder before you started otherwise you have to push all that dirty fluid through the lines. Turkey baster works great......... just be sure and clean it before you give it back to your wife.

I did suction out the dirty oil from the master cylinder. It took nearly 1/2 liter just to refill the large reservoir. After using the full litre the oil is still not completely clean coming out of the rear calipers.

Brake fluid is basically a generic-spec product that meets Department of Transportation specs, hence the "DOT 4" label. The Jaguar brand is not exotic. It is probably produced by an UK manufacturer like Girling under a Jaguar relabel.
Modern ABS systems are somewhat delicate and sensitive to contaminated brake fluid. Hence it is a good idea to flush your brakes periodically.

I am about to do my brake and power steering flush on my 2007 XK. Has anyone used synthetic fluids for either or both of these? What brands do you recommend?

I our cars are not compatable with DOT5 fluids. (Edit: cant speak for newer models..)

For DOT4, I prefer ATE SuperBlue (It is indeed blue in color). It has a 280 degree boiling point, and has a "amber" colored version that lets you flush the system (something that should be done every two years) with easy visuals to know the job is done right.

Default Shell

I'm using Shell DOT 4 (over a year) and looked really clean still when I did my brake pads last month. I'm averaging 10k miles annually.

But Vince's advice is key, the color changing makes the flush job clear cut.
