Default Performance Active Exhaust - WOW!

Well, I got my car over a week ago. Since then, except for 20 miles, it has lived in the garage. Yesterday, we had some new furniture delivered. For better access, I had to move the Jag 20 feet. I started it and moved it and shut it off. The delivery driver, a middle aged man, said to me. "That's gotta be an after market exhaust." Now, understand, I don;t think he even knew what kind of car it was or how old it may be.

The engine was cold. So when you push the button it roars to about 1200 RPM and barks breifly.

I don't think removing fuse #19 is needed.

Have you checked to see if Fuse 19 is in place? If it is, I'd be curious to learn what the difference is when you remove it.

I removed Fuse 19 from my car and won't put it back. It's still fairly quiet under light throttle, but I can't drive that way since the exhaust note is addictive.

The only other car that I owned with a better-sounding exhaust was my 1960 Corvette that had the optional off-road mufflers (and headers). They were round instead of oval. Here's an old Corvette promo with Zora Arkus Duntov, the father of the Corvette, and what the 1961 fuelie sounded like, particularly at high rpms:

Hope you like it!

Yes, the '61 Corvette does sound quite similar.

Can anyone explain the difference between the standard Active Exhaust on the XKR and the $1,400 optional Performance Active Exhaust (that is standard on the XKR-S)? They both seem to divert the exhaust around the mufflers in 2 of the 4 pipes for a better sound.

This is an excellent question that we've debated before to no apparent resolution. At the DriveAlive event I attended recently, I put that question to one of the reps there, and was informed that the Performance one had a larger diameter by half an inch. He wasn't able to back up that claim, though.

Half an inch is quite a bit larger, but at $1400?

Just got back from a run on a quiet mountainous highway. Keeping a constant load on the engine I toogled the Dynamic Mode on and off several times. The exhaust is louder and throatier when Dynanic is enabled. I wonder whether a non-performance exhaust equipped XKR with Dynamic Pack is the same?

Like I said, I can find no proof to back up his claim. I have the 'standard' dual mode exhaust on my 2010 -- there was no 'performance' option that year. And the exhaust note changes with the Dynamic mode on/off. Hell, you can even see the water vapor coming out of the different exhaust tips if the car's cold. (turning it on and off)

Still would love to find an answer though! Just for edification's sake...

I've only had my XKR for a month or so and have been to busy to really delve into some of the features/performance aspects. This is the first I've heard of the #19 fuse. I WILL be trying it out today!! Is there any problem pulling the fuse and just leaving it out? Like I said I haven't messed with it yet so I don't know how loud it will be. Does the noise detract from driving comfort or does it just make your cheeks sore from smiling? I'm not concerned about the neighbors and exhaust noise, there are several muscle cars, trucks and street rods in the neighborhood.

Now if I could just make that V12 in my XJS sound like my girlfriends V12 Bentley GT.....WOW!!
