Default Power Steering Fluid Flush cost

How much should a power steering fluid flush cost? I got quoted $244 and was a little surprised.

Thanks.

Depends on where you go, anywhere from less than $100 at a quick lube type place to over $100-$200 at a dealer ship.

Or you could do it at home with a turkey baster or transfer pump. Suck out and refill, then turning the steering wheel lock to lock a few times to work out any air. Repeat this process once a week for the next month and you should've gotten all the old fluid out. That works on the XJ at least.

I'm at the end of this process now. My wife was complaining about some steering shuddering. 43,000 miles, probably original fluid. The fluid was a reddish brown but not too brown but did smell a bit burnt. I did 3 fluid transfers so far, ~11 oz each time. Probably one more round left to do. Shudder seems to have gone away but time will tell.

Oh, I used Castrol Transmax Dex/Merc as it is a replacement for Dextron III (Dex III is stated in the service manual for PS fluid). I couldn't find regular old Dex III...
