Default Rearview Mirror

Howdy peeps. The 07 XK coupe I purchased last year has been doing fine, simple things repaired and or updated. I recently took note that at night, while I can tell my side mirrors are dimming, I’m pretty sure my rearview mirror is not. What is the typical source of the problem and/or issues to rule out? Thank you!

FIrst things first, check the plug that goes into the mirror. If that doesn't work, check the fuse.

With older BMWs, the fluid inside the mirror that does the dimming can leak out, causing a mess and of course, the mirror stops working. Have you noticed anything like that?

Is there a tutorial on removing the plastic 2 part windshield piece and front light dome piece to check connections? I don’t want to break anything…

The clamshell piece around your mirror stem is pretty fragile, but they are not as expensive as most other plastic bits. Mine was broken by a previous owner. There are 3 very small tabs that snap the 2 sides together. I think 1 on top and 2 on the bottom. I've only snapped new pieces on, never removed them, but a tiny, flat screwdriver or plastic pry tool is probably the ticket.
