Refurbished wheels
Hello all,
i have a 2008 XKR with 20” Senta wheels. I couple of the wheels have considerable curb rash from the person who owned the car before me. I would like to replace or have them refinished.
My fear of purchasing refinished wheels is if the person that refinished them did not prep them correctly, the paint will wear off quickly as the original surface is very shiny and there’s a good chance of wax on the wheels as well.
Has anyone had experience with this and does anyone know of a good refinisher in the northwest Ohio/Southeast Michigan area?
Anyone ever purchase wheels from any of the eBay sellers?
Thanks,
Cutch

How to approach the situation?
Buy one good one then send yours, one at a time, out to be refinished.
Buy a set of good ones if you come across one, then sell off your old ones.
Sometimes the original paint used in manufacturing the wheels is extremely expensive, so its smart to buy used mags.

Nearly every wheel refinisher guy uses powder coat instead of paint, there shouldn't be a concern with durability. A GOOD refinisher guy will not merely polish down bad spots, but fill those spots up before polishing and coating.
Since most Jag OEM wheels cost a mint, the $2-300 per wheel cost of a GOOD refinish would be a lot easier to swallow than the $900 PER WHEEL for really good used ones. Get cheaper used and they'd need to be refinished anyway.

A good wheel refinisher will charge you in the neighborhood of $300-350/wheel to refurbish them, including repairing scrapes, gouges, etc., and do a professional powder coat job. Just make sure you check their reviews and get recommendations to ensure you're going to the right person with lots of experience and a good reputation. There are plenty of "bargain" wheel refinishers out there, and you'll end up with "bargain" results.
Tip: make sure they are going to refinish/repair not only the surface face of the wheel, but also the inner rim portion. You want them to look new.

Ihave been having my wheels "serviced" once a year. That means maybe two to three wheels for the twelve wheels on three cars. My guy comes to my house and does the job in the driveeay. Total cost $300-$400 for all cars.
Great advice all. Thanks. I was actually thinking of doing what Sony recommended and buy one wheel, have it refinished, then swap it out. This assures me that the job is done correctly once I find a good refinisher. The downside is that my front and rear wheels are different widths. I may buy a cheaper unfinished wheel on eBay or elsewhere and try this.
I’ll contact the refinisher in Illinois and get some info.
As a comparison, Rimmer Brothers sells new ones at about 1k a pop with shipping.
